I want to remove Facebook Messenger
-
I think you are forgetting one quite important fact: When signing up for Facebook, or any other social media or other site, you accept their terms and conditions. If and when Facebook decides to change their site layout, design or functions, you'll agree with that or remove your account.
They do not need your permission or acceptance to change the way they site or parts of it work. You have pre-approved all those changes when signing up and creating an account.
There's not much if anything you can do for it.

Yeah ... I know what you mean. The media giants will always have their way. That goes for all of them. However, sooner or later someone comes up with a workaround to Annoyances, but maybe I'm too early and I'll have to wait a bit before that will be available.

Thank you for the links. I can see - with a small bit of comfort - that I'm not alone in hating it.

I'm not sure how often they update the CCleaner program but it does have an option to remove, (properly uninstall), Modern style apps, (including those that do not include this option). If you keep checking the Piriform site for release updates I am sure that they will include the Facebook app in the options. Not an immediate solution but a much simpler one than the Power-shell scripts option.
If you cannot wait you may want to check out the Power-shell method
Apps - Uninstall in Windows 10
I have CCleaner - I'll go and check on the settings. And THANK you for the above link to the tutorial. I'll study it carefully!

The Power-shell method is not the most user friendly unless you are used to working in the command prompt or maybe linux, it will get the job done but takes careful consideration and use

It's just a matter of getting use to things. Trust me, I know how hard it is to adapt to things since I have Aspergers Syndrome (Autism). But if I can do it then you can do it. I didn't like the new Messenger update for iPhone and Android, but I have gotten used to it.

Thank you! I have done it a cpl of times before and I'm not afraid of trying. I know one has to be careful and double-check before applying changes.

Thank you - it's a comfort reading your reply too. I will se how far my patience will take me!

Thank you so much for your answer. However, it won't solve my problem on account of one major obstacle: I'm not talking about a smartphone here - I'm referring to a desktop computer. I don't use a smartphone on account of hearing problems (there are no hearing aids equal to the ones I have installed on my ordinary phone "attached to the wall" that I can install on any mobile phone). Of course I should have made that clear from the start. I apologize. Would there be a similar solution for how to remove the annoying app on the browser?
Kindest Regards
You can type m.facebook.com in the url of your browser on your desktop computer. You will get the old messaging but it changes the whole format size of the screen.
As many others have suggested it probably is best just to get used to it. It's unlikely that Facebook while revert back but may include a feature possibly for the old version.
Just to confirm we are talking about Facebook webversion in a browser on a desktop? Not the windows app via the app store called Messenger?

You're quite right about the version. I'm out to kill the Facebook Messenger. Thought that possibly removing the Windows app might help, but it doesn't. Will look into the URL you suggested above. Thanks! :)

Hi, how did you go with killing Facebook Messenger? :) This is exactly the frustration I have! I loathe it. And I just want it off the Desktop version of Facebook.
