I want to remove Facebook Messenger

I found today that Facebook had installed Messenger to take care of all my messages. I hate the interface and I hate the idea of an installation I haven't chosen myself. Is there a way to uninstall Messenger on Facebook and get back the simple ordinary text in which way I used to get/send my message? So far I haven't found any setting which will allow me to do so. I would be very grateful for any suggestion.

    Kindest Regards

    Hi there thomcats.

I also noticed the little icon for messenger and it seems like an update over the simple text messages, rather than a new installation. I think they have updated it because at least half the people on Facebook use the messenger app on their phones. I believe they want to use the same format across all universal devices for Facebook and hence why the simple text messages has probably been removed.

You could try to find an option for legacy mode but as far as I can see, I don't think there is one .
Facebook Web sees Messenger replaces the Inbox Interface.

    There is a workaround...
How to bypass using Facebook's messenger app.

Or you could just stick with messenger. Personally I don't think its going to change and I can see certain common formats between both versions that have remained the same. You can of course choose to stick with the basic one mentioned in the workaround but chances are Facebook will soon update that too .

Thank you so much for your answer. However, it won't solve my problem on account of one major obstacle: I'm not talking about a smartphone here - I'm referring to a desktop computer. I don't use a smartphone on account of hearing problems (there are no hearing aids equal to the ones I have installed on my ordinary phone "attached to the wall" that I can install on any mobile phone). Of course I should have made that clear from the start. I apologize. Would there be a similar solution for how to remove the annoying app on the browser?

    Kindest Regards

Hi try this go to start then Apps scroll down to M there you will find messaging and Messenger
Right click and it should come up Pin to start or Uninstall
Press uninstall and you should find it gone.
I myself use it all the time across all my devices as I find it better than ordinary messenger

Thank you for your reply. I could uninstall Messenger on my computer according to your advice above. However, it did not remove Facebook Messenger from Facebook, which is the problem I'm trying to solve.

Hi if yo go o face book you can uncheck the chat side of face book which is messenger it will still appear but no one will be able to contact you via it unless you re enable it.
Like I have put I am elderly slightly deaf and use it 24/7 even on my smartphone as I find it better that talking on the phone, I have my smartphone set up so that if anyone rings me, it converts it to text so that I can read it and reply back to them.

Hi again, it's not that I don't want people to contact me or send messages to me - I just don't want the *ugly* Facebook Messenger to handle it. I want my plain, ordinary text back for sending/getting messages. I never engage in live chat - that is always off - but up until now, I've had my messages coming in nice, plain text (much like what we are using here for example). Now, FB have forced this "update" on me and I really hate it.

As for the phone, yeah, we all have different solutions. I can use my small, ordinary mobile phone if I need to. When out running errands for example, I can call a taxi or I can phone home. But for all phone traffic it isn't safe to use, since I don't hear the incoming signals and I don't want to carry the thing around all day to see if it's calling me or not, so to speak. :)

I think you are forgetting one quite important fact: When signing up for Facebook, or any other social media or other site, you accept their terms and conditions. If and when Facebook decides to change their site layout, design or functions, you'll agree with that or remove your account.

They do not need your permission or acceptance to change the way the site or parts of it work and look. You have pre-approved all those and future changes when signing up and creating an account.

There's not much if anything you can do for it.

I want to remove Facebook Messenger

They just brought that out. Although, I rarely use the web version of Facebook since I use Windows 10's Facebook app and Messenger app as well the Facebook app and Messenger app on my phone. I did notice on my grandmother's computer when she had Facebook pulled up on the web that they had replaced Facebook's old messaging interface to the new Facebook Messenger interface.

I'm not sure how often they update the CCleaner program but it does have an option to remove, (properly uninstall), Modern style apps, (including those that do not include this option). If you keep checking the Piriform site for release updates I am sure that they will include the Facebook app in the options. Not an immediate solution but a much simpler one than the Power-shell scripts option.

If you cannot wait you may want to check out the Power-shell method
