Unable to set Photoscape as Default Photo Viewer

Photoscape is an app that is functioning normally.
I want to make it my Default Photo Viewer.
When I go to Settings/Default Apps it is not on the list
On one attempt to set, it stated that Photoscape was "unavailable" (not sure where that occurred)
I have tried a number of paths for default apps in Tutorial section without success
Suggestions for how to get around this barrier?
    Thank You

I'd look in Control Panel, Default Programs, more choices.

I understand Photoscape to be a desktop program - not a universal app. It's not recommended for Win 10- see below.

    It is not listed in
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs

You could associate individual file types thus:
Unable to set Photoscape as Default Photo Viewer-snap-2017-01-09-23.03.32.jpg

    - or via Open With and browse to Photoscape.

It seems it does not register itself as being able to handle the relevant file types.

A quick impression suggests it's a bit out of date.

indeed- you are directed to use Photoscape X (not free) for Win 10, not Photoscape v3.7.

I had the same problem with Photoscape with my new Acer E5-575G-728Q. The solution was to download the latest version of Photoscape X Pro (which I was able to do as a free trial). You will have to purchase if you want to unlock all the features. Windows 10 will recognize it as a photo editor and allow you to choose it as the default app.

P.S. Photoscape X Pro is available in the Windows App Store.

Try Apps and Features > Allow Apps from Anywhere. Should I think let you set as the default then.

My Acer running Windows 10 Home does not offer that option. It does show both PhotoScape and PhotoScape X Pro via that method but PhotoScape is marked "unavailable" while PhotoScape X Pros is available. Maybe the "Apps from anywhere" option is a Windows Professional feature?

My Asus T300 also has Windows 10 home and I was able to set up PhotoScape some time back without a problem. Now it too lists PhotoScape as "unavailable." I suspect this is a result of some update. PhotoScape still works though, probably because it was set up before the update.

It's on Home as well as Pro.
