    Snipping Tool images freezing on screen

    Hi

    I have a persistent error with Snipping Tool in Windows 10 that has plagued me for month or so.
    I used the tool to capture two screen images and that worked fine, they automatically downloaded in Picture folder. However the images remain frozen on my screen and I cannot remove them, not even with Task Manager or System Restore. I would rather not go through the hassles of a complete restore if I can be avoid it.
    I can still use the PC but having a 27" high end monitor with these images frozen on the screen prevents me from using screen saver images which form a part of my home office décor.
    If I download a link or page it works fine over the frozen images.

    Thanks for any assistance

    What third party Security software are you running? Have you already done sfc /scannow and also the DISM fix. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...-10-image.html

    I'm running Kaspersky Total Security 2015.

    sfc /scannow returned the following log message;

    It initially said that the fault could not be repaired but seems to indicate in the log that it has been repaired. No other errors were located by the scan.

    Thanks, I'll see if this solves the problem.

    Third party security products can cause freezing issues if they are set to be very restrictive in that they are set to scan every time you create a temp or regular file. You may want to go through the settings for Kaspersky and change the settings to not be as restrictive for Real Time scanning.

    Snipping Tool images freezing on screen

    Hi
    I have performed the sfc /scannow and DISM scans and no further problem found. However I still have the two images from Snipping Tool frozen on my desktop screen. I'm able to use the PC without problems but these images take up about 3/4 of the screen and I cannot remove them.
    I've tried everything that I know and can find online but I'm stumped, I can't even remove them with system restore. They reappear every time with start-up.
    Any further suggestions please?

    What option did you run DISM command ? You can try:
    1. Temporarily disable Kaspersky
    2. Run DISM to clean up the component store in WinSxS folder, this command will take a while if the folder contains lots of junk:
      Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
    3. Try snipping tool again.

    Please take a screenshot showing your whole, empty desktop (no apps, browsers etc. running). In case you need any instructions on making and posting screenshots, see these tutorials:

    I ran DISM in Administer mode with Kaspersky Total Security disabled no changes to problem.

    See screenshot;

    I originally took a screenshot of a device I intended to buy with Snipping Tool which I have used many times in the past. The screenshot worked perfectly and was saved in One Note. The problem is that the image is somehow frozen on the screen and will not close and I cannot get rid of it. On start up it appears every time.
    Thanks for any help you can offer. It is a 27" high end monitor 1080P full HD on which I run screen saver images but it doesn't look good right now.

    OK, thanks.

    Please don't take this wrong: I wanted to exclude something I saw once, a newbie having somehow managed to get desktop background changed to a screenshot I had asked him to take. Apparently you are not a newbie and this is not your case :)

    A long shot but have you tried to change Windows desktop theme? I've sometimes had an issue with context menu staying on desktop just like those screenshots of yours, it often goes away when Windows "resets" desktop when changing the theme.

    Just did as you suggested and it seems to have worked. The rogue images are gone and I have a pale blue solid background with apps showing. I'll select some suitable backgrounds tomorrow morning. Sincere thanks for your time and effort you have saved me from having to (probably) do a complete reinstall, I do appreciate it.
