    Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable does not install

    On Steam, there is a game I bought several months ago called Victory at Sea. I played this game for several hours on my laptop and it worked okay. However, when I installed it on my new desktop PC and launched, it gave me this message:

    Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable does not install-20161028142115_1.jpg

    I launched this game directly from the Steam library like any other game I have on Steam and there are no internet connection problems. I looked on the discussions page for this game and I found some posts of players explaining they've had a similar problem just like mine. Fortunately, someone from the game developer team have read these posts and responded with solutions. For some, they fixed their issues. For others including me, they lead to other issues.

    I made a post of my own and the developer was kind enough to send me some possible fixes:

    Verify integrity of game cache: Completed, but issue persists.
    Re-download and install Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable, uninstall existing program first:

    I checked on Uninstall or Change Program in Control Panel and it was not there:

    Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable does not install-dur.png

    So I went ahead with the link he gave me (Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x64) from Official Microsoft Download Center), downloaded it, ran the installer and just before it finishes, I get this:

    Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable does not install-dur2.png

    I told the developer about this and so far, I haven't found an answer. Since VC++ 2010 does not appear in Uninstall or Change Program, there's nothing I can do knowingly that tells me that VC++ 2010 is installed in my computer. My desktop runs Windows 10 and came with it originally, but my laptop has Windows 10 that I upgraded from Windows 7 so I don't know if incompatibility issues play a role. Since the developer hasn't said anything about this issue mainly because it's outside of his job, I came here to see if someone who knows these types of issues can tell me on how to fix it. Let me know if you know or you think you know what's going on.

    Does the log file give you more? (Shown on your last screenshot). Or possibly the event log - Event Viewer.

    Could be some remaining registry entry from some previous installation... maybe.

    Hi, here's someone who claims to have found a way to get this done for him.

    However, I don't know what the significance is of what he's done, so can't comment further.

    Please back up appropriately before attempting fixes. We recommend the routine use of disk imaging, e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot medium + external storage for images
