Flexnet ISUSPM.exe - how to remove?

Any help with this Installshield ISUSMPM mess?

I uninstalled Naturally Speaking and that left only 1 file remaining in the ProgramData\FLEXnet\Connect\11\ folder - products.fnc-xml. So I just deleted the FLEXnet folder in ProgramData. So I'm guessing whatever FLEXnet is it won't be bothering me again.

That left me with:

Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield\Update\ISUSPM.exe


Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\_isusres.dll
Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\agent.exe


ProgramData\Installshield\Update\isuspm.ini

I just moved those files out into a backup location just in case. Now in the Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield\ folder there are 3 other folders with files inside that I didn't touch:

Engine
IScript
Professional

I don't know what those are so I'm leaving them alone. I'm afraid somewhere in here now I may have made a mess moving and deleting these Installshield files. There was a scheduled task calling ISUSPM to run "Optimize Thumbnail Cache Files". No idea what that is and I can't find anything at all about it or if it was part of Windows scheduled tasks or if it was put there by something else. I deleted it because it called upon ISUSPM. Does anyone know what that is? Naturally speaking made a mess out of my new PC with all this Installshield ISUSPM garbage, and it doesn't help that it's in multiple places. I sure hope I didn't mess things up on my new PC already trying to get rid of this junk.

I too am having this problem. But it was installed by Roxio.

With respect to rivre's post on details of program location and function, my approach is more focused on system impact and performance degradation. His post points to additional component executions in alt. locations created by a totally different vendor. Rely on both posts and consider we obviously do not cover the component comprehensively or exclusively. Had this app been destructive, I would have invested more time analyzing it.

Observation: The program(s) & scripts are benign but waste time & resources at boot & program startup after the initial installation and updates successfully complete. The programs occupy 3.3MB + 2.2MB of space, but if authentication is successful, a 60.1MB backup occurs. For no more than its functionality, the package wastes a huge amount of the registry with backup keys @ hive HKCR, HKCU, HKLM & HKUs .DEFAULT, S-1-5-18, S-1-19 & inconsequential MUIs in S-1-5-21s.

It calls to the Vendor Authentication Server @ http://updateservice.sonic.com/ [most likely expired redir http://qawebw1.roxio.com/registratio...stration.jhtml, http://activation.roxio.com/activateme/, & http://activation.sonic.com/activateme/; caution, curiosity killed the cat; there are remote scripts loaded to the local pc. We don't know how they react outside the installer shell] to update the Roxio VideoWaveVHS component. If you have registered with Corel/Roxio, you should be prompted for your name/password, however if your software is not registered, the script terminates with a failure code.

In the final analysis, why would you bother to register software acquired by another Corp(Corel) that was released in 2010(Roxio)? It results in a nominal impact on storage space. The major impact on system performance is the registry entries, primarily Classes & CLSID. Each time Any program uses stored information in the registry, it must search the entire hive(s). Registry size is a Major factor in system startup, changing users, and program initialization. This set of programs also affect bandwidth, be it Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

Recommendation: On all products developed or released by Roxio, 2006 and after, are likely to deploy this less expensive method of registration and program patches. CREATE A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT! Install applications as usual and insure you go to the "Help" menu to "Check for updates". After each run, exit the application and rerun until application reports it is up-to-date, you "have the latest version/release installed" or "no updates available" (typical responses) close & CREATE A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT!

Once completed, open & leave application running. This will prevent any shared/Common [files] from being inadvertently uninstalled. I do not trust InstallShield to delete residual files and obsolete registry keys. InstallShield is dependent upon the vendor's instruction set to remove selective files. It does not necessarily restore the system & file system to its prior state. Alright, lets cut to the chase...use an uninstallation tool that scowlers the registry for those unassociated values. Popular examples are IObit Uninstaller v7+, Piriform CCleaner v5.5+, and Wise Program Uninstaller v2+. I endorse none, but caution they include destructive processes. Insure you have backups of your Program dirs & ProgramData. Uninstall FLEXnet & reboot.
