Looks like the Dragon Assistant is still around, Dave, although it may be presented by a different company?

    Dragon Assistant | Nuance

Cortana on my Lumia 1520 WP8.1 works seamlessly here in the U.S.. Hold the search button and she/it opens awaiting a voice command. Speak "Open such-and-such app" and she opens it. Speak "Make an appointment" and that process begins. Same with reminders. Speak "Search for Windows 10 forums". These are the results via Bing. Windows TenForums.com is #1 on the list.

The best is when driving for we have to be hands free here in our state. Speak "Call such-and-such" and she dials the number. What could be more convenient?

It/She has her own Notebook similar to the ones in OneNote. It's linked to my MS account so as to be the same on any of my devices. I don't have my tower up and running due to my latest move while remodeling, so I'm a few builds behind to see progress. In my current 1024 build it wasn't working well.

A tutorial I made: Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 Search Button. The music search is I think the most ingenious.

There's so much more that I can't cover in one post. I'm hoping all have at least the chance to try it/her out.

tKS yes, That prompted my last remark. I think she also played one or two small parts in at least one of the series. Must have been exceptionally catchy because her voice was used in several other tech devices.

Frankly you are probably better off without it. I suspect once the novelty wears off most people will uninstall it and it will become the "modern clippy".
Geez. Can you say nothing good about modern innovation even though you don't like it? Personally the only thing I saw wrong with Clippy was that it was pesty distraction with its movements. A great teaching aid while learning Office, though.

I find Cortana very handy. I would think it to be especially great help for some that are handicapped. Let's try to think past our noses shall we?

I must ask > Have you used Cortana for any good length of time?

I have used Cortana for quite awhile and I didn't like it and it didn't work to well. It didn't recognize my speech very well. I speak English. Ironically because of my disability (handicap) I don't speak well enough for Cortana to work.

Ok, groze. I understand. Like I stated I don't have my tower PC up and running. On the Windows Phone 8 there is a "Hey Cortana" section in settings.

It's for training Cortana to recognize one's voice. This pic shows that I've already performed the voice recognition exercise.

Is there a choice in Windows 10 settings or its settings for it? If so, try that.

To add more about Cortana > If I speak "Hey Cortana" she wakes the phone up and is ready for voice command to do most things desired.

When I had my Windows locale set as US, Cortana did work, didn't speak but managed to find a restaurant across the road here in Belgrade, Serbia.

    Off topic post,

Did you know that was Gene Roddenberry wife that did the voice of the computer?

I think she did the voice of the computer in most the star trek tv shows and made a guest appearance in some of them.
She played Nurse Chapel and Councillor Troy's mother.

I was just cruising "What's new" in the Cortana section of Lumia Help & Tips app and this is what was found:

Cortana alpha is now available in France, Italy, Germany, and Spain. If your region is France, Italy, Germany, or Spain, try Cortana for yourself and see what all the buzz is about. For info on how to set up Cortana alpha for your locale, see Cortana alpha.

    Notes

    • Cortana is only available on phones with Windows Phone 8.1, and in some countries/regions. Check to see which software version you have and find out if an update is available.
    • Some features for Cortana may not be available in all countries or regions.
    • If Cortana isn't available, or you don't want to use it, you can still use the Speech functionality on your phone.

    As a fellow dane...

I really hope Cortana will be comming to Denmark.
I'm currently using an iPhone as my primary phone, and I'm frequently using Siri when driving.
It reads my messages and I reply by voice, etc,.. It's really handy, and of cource available in Danish.
