m2ts files won't play in VLC but will in Windows media player !!!

    Hi there

Never thought I'd see the day where a codec doesn't work properly in VLC but works in Windows media player !!!!

m2ts files (HD video - usually used in Blu Ray etc) cause VLC to freeze - Windows media player just plays them !!!! -- I'm talking about non encrypyed ripped blu ray stuff of HD video captured from TV.

I have to convert to mp4 or mkv anyway as PLEX won't handle m2ts files - and I have a lossless fast converter -- but I thought it was interesting that finally a glitch in VLC has shown up -- I've always thought vlc was for its price (FREE) the most feature complete video / audio player out there !!!!.

If there's a VLC solution it would be interesting. PLEX won't do m2ts files so I'm not sure what I'll have to use as a server once I start ripping 4K UHD video --but that's another topic !!!.

I've sent a bug report to VLC so we'll see what happens.

BTW same problem with VLC whether used on Windows or Linux.

    Cheers

Can't say I've heard of m2t. Have you tried a codec pack such as Shark007? STANDARD Codecs for Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 and 64-bit components: 64bit Codecs for Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7.

    Jimbo,
Just tried an m2ts video file and it works correctly on VLC v. 2.2.4, 64bit. I'm using KLite codecs, but I don't believe they are necessary for VLC to render theses files. I use the codecs mainly for Groove video, m2ts files even works with Groove. hth

With K-Lite you can probably also transcode the files with Plex.
