I have both movie maker & photo gallery on my Win 10.
On both of my W10 systems (Home & Pro), I couldn't find Movie Maker. I went here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...maker-download
And downloaded it, installed it and tested it. It seems to work. I brought in a couple of videos, chopped them up, saved them and the process worked.
I am not lucky, I did everything possible with no luck.
I finally installed freeware open source one : www.openshot.org
weird, i dont have movie maker on mine. only option for movies&tv. i checked and dont have win live essentials..maybe, i may have deleted it when i first got the pc hmm - you know, purging bloatware
It may be because of this:

To install or uninstall Windows Essentials programs, you must be logged on to the computer using an administrator account.
nvm, my pc is not compatible with that program.
The information in the link I posted actually says Windows Live Essentials (movie maker/photo gallery etc) is compatible with W10 and I actually downloaded and installed Movie Maker a couple of weeks ago. It works just fine.
No explanation for what is going on with your installation put pleased to hear you have found a replacement.
