    downloading file different result between IE11 and Firefox

    Today I downloaded a file with extension .fdu (satellite sender list). I have not assigned a program to .fdu files.
    Downloading with IE11 results in a HTML file and not an fdu file.
    Downloading with Firefox results in an fdu file.
    I am curious about an explanation, since I never met such a thing before.

    Perhaps you could share the URL and a couple of screenshots showing how you are using IE?

    It must be a security feature in IE11. However, after putting the security options on a low level, still the file is downloaded as a htm file.
    But, when I change the extension .htm into .fdu, I have precisely the file which was aimed at and which downloaded as .fdu file with Firefox.
    So to be clear: I donot have a problem, I was only surprised.
    If you want to experience this by yourself as a test:
    Go to http://mec.home.xs4all.nl/mec3/handleidingen.htm
    Rebox; Zenderlijst augustus 2016.
    As said, it is a file, to be used in a satellite receiver.

    I would guess it's defective html script, or an issue with standards compliance.

    Firefox downloads successfully from that link, but IE and Edge display the file (?) well, there's a page of random characters.

    IE Save target offers
    Rebox-aug2016.htm

    Copy link gives
    http://www.xs4all.nl/~mec/mec3/downl...ox-aug2016.fdu

    Here's the relevant line-

    <p>
    <a href="http://www.xs4all.nl/~mec/mec3/downloads/Rebox-aug2016.fdu" target="_blank">Zenderlijst augustus 2016</a>
    <br />
    Mist u zenders of werken zenders niet meer?
