MS has Notepad as a nice lite text editor and word-pad.. both are nice and fit the need, and pre-installed. But what do you use as a third party tool??
I use the following:
- Notepad++
- Notepad2
- Genny
- EditPad Pro/EditPad lite.. both are great, IMO..
So,, what you you folks use/think??

I use Notepad++ for pretty much all of the coding I do for my Web course and the majority of text-based stuff I do for myself.
I only use Word, when I have to create documents (e.g. reports) that have to be submitted for assessment.
I normally use Notepad++ instead of Notepad. Now that it's on my mind I need to install it in Windows 10. I never gave it a thought to install it the last time I did a clean install.
There's the new Visual Studio Code from Microsoft, free and based off of Atom - perfect because it's cross-platform and runs on Windows/Linux/Mac.
I prefer Sublime Text 2/3, myself (faster UI, C++ instead of HTML/JS). And vim never dies, of course.
I used Notepad++ until I discovered Notepad2 and now I wouldn't even think of changing.
Once customized Notepad2 works much better for me
I go back and forth between Notepad++ and Notepad2. I use FileSearchEX to actually find the files I've been working on, then right click and them all and drag them into Notepad++. That is really why I like Notepad++ ... support for more than one file.
