Playing standard midi files from the internet.

To play standard midi files from the internet to my Roland keyboard I use the Van Basco Karaoke programme
via midi leads. For some reason when I click on a midi file, instead of the Van Basco programme, the VLC media player
appears in the centre of the sceen and does nothing. Is there any way to prevent this happening?I have checked that
.mid .midi and .kar(the 3 file extensions for midi)are configured with Van Basco and not VLC.Can anyone help please?

Instead of just clicking on the midi file what if you right click on the file and choose "open with" and then just use your chosen program?

Thanks for your reply Rocky, right click and "open with" wasn`t a choice. However "open link in a new tab " was, and although it didn`t work,it mentioned the "VLC Web plug in" which I have now disabled and everything works perfectly.
