No errors in Windows update...indicated success. Any MS I try to open appears for less than a second on the monitor then closes. It has been doing this since I got the machine recently and every suggestion on this thread fails to solve this basic issue.

I see there is yet another Windows 10 update ready...about one/day...downloading now but without confidence. This is beyond tiresome.

Well it's an inherent problem with Universal apps - they are built for eye-candy and don't use the generic API's as Win32 has for errors etc - so unless each error is caught specifically, this kind of of thing will happen - makes it impossible to troubleshoot.

I think there must be something corrupted with the user account. Tempted to say a clean install is the only thing that will fix this but it might be worth creating a new user account first and seeing if it behaves correctly. Use option 3 from the tutorial below.

I am as flabbergasted as you! Are you the only user and did you set up a Microsoft account or a local account?
I don't know what this means.

There are two types of account in Windows; one is a local account which does not connect to Microsoft, the other is a Microsoft account which uses an email address as a username to connect you into the Microsoft cloud system. You will find them described in the tutorial I linked you to in my previous post #34. You can find out what account you have by going to Settings and Accounts. It will show if you are a local account or display an email address and show Manage my Microsoft account if you are an MS account.

Local account. Updated and installed today's updates. No good. Started new local account. Store won't open, MS apps open and shut instantly. Guess I start over. Glad I didn't log the hours I've wasted trying to make this OS run...and it is far from done...back to square one now.

Maybe rebox it and RMA to Dell , just incase something else is going on? though I am sure they will ask you to do a factory reset on it 1st....

Same as advice given today to me to Hard reset my Phone , so a particular App will update , not likely ! App = uninstalled :)

    Right decision.
If the inplace upgrade is not sufficient to resolve the issue, a re-install is due. You may opt for a Reset as well, but a Clean Install is always good.
