For anyone interested in 3rd party media players for Windows I find the K-Lite codec pack works a treat, can also install media player classic if you want. The reason for posting about it here is that I beleive the codecs are installed for general Windows apps to be able to access, so if you find there is a file type you can't play by default, this pack might help. It also has a very detailed configuration utility. I have been using the supplied codecs since Win 98 days without issues.
Finding the download link is a pain, it's right down the bottom of page past all the driver up daters and other crap.
