Batch Append Mp3 Tags

Yes.. with mp3tag installed, select all the files your interested in, then rt click, click MP3tag.

MP3tag's window should open and those files should be listed.
Now in that window, select all the files you want to change.
You will see <keep> in the fields in the left pane.
So change just what you want to change, then save.

<keep> says don't change

I'm not certain, but you could try this on one file
%genre%;Pop

I think you'll find something that meets your needs - I don't use the command line or scripting, but that might be what you need to use instead of the GUI. Regular expressions or variables should be your focus.

Have you actually a. over written the <keep> text with your new text? b. Clicked the save button and got a confirmatory message such as
'Saved tags in 4 files'?

Some screenshots would help if this still doesn't work for you.

That's exactly what I want to do. Given how long mp3 tagging has been around, I'm surprised that this isn't a common function, or that more people haven't requested it. Haven't seen anyone on any other forums asking for it either.

I'll be honest with you - there's a lot of reading on the Mp3tag help that probably has the answer. It might be in the command line options, or export, or regular expressions. I don't have first hand experience in what you want to do (otherwise, I would tell you )

To be perfectly honest, I'm not certain Mp3tag can do that - but having read enough of the help, I believe Mp3tag can do what you want. It might be a few steps ... export edit import or it is a single operation that I have never used.

Read through the online help and try things on a copy of a few files.

Or ... another member might drop by and give you the method in Mp3tag or provide another software package.

I'll keep an eye on your thread if you find something in Mp3tag help and want another pair of eyes on it.
I'd like to know too, so I might dig deeper, but for now, this is your research project

can do what you want. However, it's a paid version or you can try a 30 day-trial version.
You can export the meta data to an excel file. globally Modify/Append the appropriate tag (genre in your case) then import it back.
