    Windows Media Player.

Win Vista, Win 7, Win 8/8.1 and Win 10.
They all have WMP as part of the operating system.

    Questions :
Are those WMP all the same or just same name only ?
Do they all support the same list of video and audio file formats ?
More specifically, if I can play a video file in one of the above OSes, can the same video file be played in another OS ?

Yes.. from what I can tell it's the same program that's been in Windows for some time. There might have been a minor tweak it's the same overall.

And yes.. what you can use the same video file over multiple OS's.

One huge difference, on Windows 7 it plays DVD and Mpeg files. Never owned 8 or 8.1 but in 10 MS has brutally ripped that codec out, nasty side effect is MPEG files (or MPG, I forget which) only plays sound but no video.
