Cannot open settings in windows mail

    Hi

Something must have happened to my windows mail in windows 10 version 1511. When I slick on Manage account in Settings, nothing happens and the settings do not open. A related issue is that the mails do not display in the reading pane. I don't know if these are related but I am stumped as to how to fix this. This happens with all mail accounts in windows mail but only on one of my computers. I don't know that I changed anything though.

Any ideas as to a fix would be welcome.

    Suggestion :

Logon to the computer that is having this problem.
Use this tutorial to uninstall Mail & Calendar > then go to Windows Store and reinstall Mail & Calendar.

Use either Option Two or Three.

I tried your suggestions and reinstalled Mail and Calendar from the Store but my problem did not go away. I was able to uninstall and reinstall them successfully but I still could not get the settings to open. Finally I decided to restore my 2 day old system from a backup and the problems all went away, although I will never know what caused them in the first place.

One thing I did notice is that in my Appdata|Local|Comms folder the file store.vol is still 230GB in size. I tried deleting the store.vol in safe mode, like I saw in a post, but with that file gone, I again could not open the settings for my accounts. It appears that the problem must lie in that file. Finally I restored my system again from the backup. I will likely leave it as is until I can find a solution, even though that file is eating a bunch of my storage. Do you know what that file is? It must contain some configuration data.

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks Davidhk. I suppose you realized my type in my last post, the file is 230MB long not 230GB. Still it is a big file, and bigger than it should be from what I have read online. Some have suggested deleting it but then I get the problem of not being able to open mail settings.

Looking at my event viewer today, I notice several errors related to that file. The error message is:

svchost (9344) The database page read from the file "C:\{username}\AppData\Local\Comms\UnistoreDB\store.vol" at offset 25395200 (0x0000000001838000) (database page 6199 (0x1837)) for 4096 (0x00001000) bytes failed verification because it contains no page data. The read operation will fail with error -1019 (0xfffffc05). If this condition persists then please restore the database from a previous backup. This problem is likely due to faulty hardware. Please contact your hardware vendor for further assistance diagnosing the problem.

This error message appears several times. I post this in case of any further ideas of what may be causing this. As I mentioned already, sfc /scannow indicates no errors.

    Thanks.
