Start by looking through Task Scheduler, see what's set to run every hour or so.

I was given this in a recent threade I was working: Task Scheduler Viewer for Windows 10/7/8/Vista

Great for looking at Scheduled tasks.

I'm fairly certain that AndreyT is correct
In order to send feedback through Windows Feedback app you have to log into the Freedback app using an online account. This is natural and this is expected.

However, you don't have to convert your local Windows account into an online account. Your Windows account remains local, you just log into the Feedback app (and only into Feedback app) using an online account.

I'm going to back you up on this though ... for about a month some setting son my machines (both Win8.1 and Win10) were getting reset to default (File Explorer view & Time). It too drove me crazy (Malware...Updates, Sched Maint...???)

I kept checking my settings and correcting them, then about a week later .... had to do it again. I originally thought it might be the appraiser pgm, but then time was defaulted to Pacific ... The two could be unrelated bc there was a cumulative update on tyhe ten machine. Still for both issues to be resolved by WU - well, what can I say?

I don't think I did anything to resolve it and I've been keeping an eye on my View and time ... so far so good.

The only things that changed were by WU ... I did notice a Sched Task: Time that was not running, but even launching that by hand did not help it. I ran Internet time - nope didn't help. I changed the time service from Windows to nist, updated and that seemed to fix the sched task - it ran successfully one the next cycle.

So, what can the user do?
    Run WU manually
Make sure your date and time is set correctly and internet time updates - try using the nist time server

    That's all I have.

Here's what I get in notifications when this happens.

I looked in system event viewer. Didn't see anything that indicated a likely problem. But of course I could have missed something there.
For my usage and having 4 Win 10 machines, running WU manually is a bridge too far.

    Hello Windy Gamer,

You might see if the tutorial below may be able to help with this "An app default was reset" issue. :)

Going to back to feedback reporting. I thought I saw on one of many Google search expeditions a hit that made reference to a new actual 'feedback' app that could be downloaded from the store for easy submission of bugs reporting / ideas . I did search for it a couple weeks ago but found no relevant hits. Does anyone know if this is true? Maybe it's still pending a release. Or maybe I imagined or misinterpreted what I read - unfortunately cannot remember when and where

Thanks. Now that I have the right search term I see that "Hijacking App Defaults" is actually a meme for Windows 10 and from a post in social.technet.microsoft.com I see that MS is aware of the "bug".

    An App Default Was Reset

Seems extreme to have to hammer MS out of the picture to stop this from happening, but that appears to be the MS sanctioned temp fix. Also not sure why it is taking MS several months to come up with a "fix".

Thanks, Brink, for putting me in the right track.
