Anyway to keep windows 10 from removing software?

The two software that I like are spybot s&d and 8gadget pack. Spybot both versions is usually removed during an upgrade not sure if it is removed at other times. 8gadget pack is removed at various times. I consider both annoying. Spybot even created a special file to re-install spybot 2.xx because of this issue. I ran them both without issue on windows 10. Windows 10 is overriding my decision to use legitimate free software, this I don't like at all. I could of also paid for spybot S&D enhanced version if I choose to. Windows 10 shouldn't override an administrator action period. I am still having the graphics issue with windows 10 but it is a little better with the update driver someone found for me-thank you. Whether I keep 10 or not all depends on the anniversary update.

MS tends to remove some third party programs that can interfere with upgrade process and it's safer to remove or deactivate any antivirus and anti malware resident programs when upgrading. Nature of resident security programs is to intercept any traffic with system files and check their validity. If they find a file or process that makes changes to system (and possibly other files that could be infected), they are there to stop it and that would also stop upgrade from proceeding. Unless developers of AV software know what changes will be to those files in advance and make allowances for it. Even Windows Defender gets shut down during system upgrades. There's also big difference between update and upgrade.

I vaguely remember on the last threshold update in November getting a message about 8 gadget pack getting disabled. I think once rebooted it asked if I want to re enable it or something like that. Once I did that it was working again fine - I didn't have to re install it. And subsequent cumulative updates have all been fine with it. The 8 gadget pack isn't even the latest version that I have, it's from circa October and I believe it's been updated several times since then. I only use it so I can get the handy and aesthetically pleasing cpu meter showing on the desktop. Fortunately it's always worked.

My guess is that the malicious software removal tool is doing it.
