    Photo Gallery Missing Files

    Hello
Today my photo gallery had stop working since installed 6 months ago. After researching the issue, i was told to uninstall and reinstall. Which i uninstall and downloaded the Window Essential 2012 which includes all of the program within it. However after installing, now Photo Gallery won't open and with this error received that these 3 files are missing.
    1. WLXPhotoSqm.dll. 2. DmxBici.dll. 3. WLXPhotobase.dll. I ran the new install twice. I attempted a system restore which failed to correct the problem. I attempted to do a clean boot, that also failed. After reading some of the similar threads here, i downloaded the the Restore_Windows Photo_Viewer.reg which that did not fix the issue either. Aslo in my Window Live Folder, there are no document there. I use window live photo gallery to import/scan from my printer and need this option.

Can someone please help me to resolve this problem?.

    thanks in advance.

    Two things you can try

    1) Do a repair
    WinKey+R
type wlarp in the run box

if the repair doesn't fix the issue, try the offline install pkg

How do I install Windows Essentials while offline? - Windows Help

    Photo Gallery Missing Files-wlmoffline.png
Scroll down to Legal information near the bottom of the page
    Expand the section
    > Essentials installer files for Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2008
Download the pkg for your native language
Install the applets you want to use from that pkg

thanks for the help but none of these work. 1. wlarp windows cannot find. 2. offline installer wlsetup-all.exe does not work. Once it is ran and i chose to install the complete package, the indicator show it is installing and i get a confirmation installment is done, however it is not found in my program menu nor in my C drive. The other apps are found such as movie maker window mail, etc are they but will not open due to the files missing.

    Ok, try it this way

Uninstall Windows Live using Programs and Features - if it's there

    In File Explorer
    Search your c:\ drive for
    kind:=folder Windows Live

    Photo Gallery Missing Files-srchfolderwl.png

Rename (do NOT delete) all Windows Live folders in the search results to
    Windows Live-x
    Windows Live Mail-x
    Windows Live Writer-x
    etc

    Restart the machine

Then try installing with offline installer pkg

    thanks slartybart
per your instructions 1. window live was not found in the program & feature. 2. i have located all the file folder and Mail & Writer were not found. I have 3 folders that are empty. So i need some additional help. Should i change the empty folders name to Mail & Writer; also should i rename all those that are listed with the -X as you indicated? Attach is a list of the folders found. I don't want to assume anything and create a bigger problem.
    thanks in advance
i hope i did this right

Ok, the results included more than Windows Live - don't worry about that.

I echoed your screen shot and boxed in the folders that you should rename
    Only rename the boxed folders.

    Photo Gallery Missing Files-wlstress-.png

    I forgot to ask
In Files Explorer, is view hidden files selected?

If not, please select that option and run the same search again.

If the results are different - I think you grasp the concept.

There is more than one folder with the same name, rename each of them accordingly
(basically just tacking -x on the end of the name)

    Windows Live to Windows Live-x
Windows Live Photo Acquisition to Windows Live Photo Acquisition-x
Windows Live Photo Gallery to Windows Live Photo Gallery-x

Oh - you don't have to "create" the mail and writer folders from the empty ones.
The intent is to get the Windows Live folders out of the way by renaming them.
I don't want you to delete them in case there are files in the folders such as pictures.

Thanks, almost there - you're doing great!

After you have renamed the folders

    download cCleaner (free)
install - remove the checkboxes from any extra software offered (Google Chrome for example)
    Run cCleaner
    Select Registry
    Select all entry types

    Photo Gallery Missing Files-ccleaner-0.png

Press the Scan for issues button
Select all in the scan results panel
Press the fix selected issues... button
Notes: You'll probably see a bunch of Net 1 and eHome Firewall entries - don't worry about them.
Both are references to depreciated features in Win10.

I've never had to use a cCleaner reg backup, but ... it's better to have it than wish you had it

Answer yes to the back up dialog - remember where you save the file.
    Press the Fix all button

Run the scan a 2nd time and follow the same steps
    exit cCleaner
    Restart your machine

There's one question I have left
Where are those PhotoGallery and Mail folders I see in your search results. They're not Windows Live, just the names

If they're in an xxx Apps folder, then they're most likely a Windows Universal Platform (WUP) app, not Windows Live applets

Post another search (details view, sort by name) - that would help.

If you're sure that all Windows Live folders are renamed - you can go ahead without waiting for me to confirm - you seem competent

The next step is to install Windows Live Photogallery from the offline installer (post# 2) - choose PhotoGallery only for now
Net 3.5 is required for Windows Live - the installer should ask and offer to download. You can also get it in Programs and Features > turn Windows features on > Select Net 3.5 (sb at the top)

    ok slartybart
thank you again for working with me on this. I did considered myself computer savy until windows 10 was created. Thats where my user name stressful 1 comes from. Lol.
So this is where we are now. I have renamed the folders to -X. Although the actual renaming of the new name never showed, after i renamed them to -x, i assume maybe they would be visable once i did a restart. Also, i use Ccleaner regularly but not much for the registry. Therefore i scan and fixed all issues several times until no issue were found. Now the offline installer-not a pkg installer. i have is an exe file. (wlsetup-all-exe). So in my attempt to install i get the option to choose all or othesr. When i chose a specific one , the next option states that i have all the programs install. However, when i check my program & features, Window Live is not there. I did a search and found windows mail & photo gallery in my C-Drive programs x86, but they are not under the name Windows Live,. I have attached the output of installing the w,setup-all exe file

    That is very odd indeed.

Does Windows Essentials 2012 appear in Programs and Features?

Does Windows Essentials 2012 appear in cCleaner > Tools > Uninstall?

    Can you run wlarp?
WinKey+R - type wlarp in the run box

No? Does wlarp show up if you use File Explorer search?

I'll read your post again, but it seems as though you did all of the steps.

Also, please do another File Explorer search
    Windows Live kind:=folder
    view: details
    sort on the name column

    Thanks
