MS office 2003 will not start

Just got a new HP desktop and I can't get MS Office 2003 to set-up in Win10 . It ran great on Win7 and Winxp over a number of years. I'm sure the 25 character code is correct and I have the start-up disk in the drive . Any reason why it stopped working on Win10. I keep getting a report that the code is wrong, please enter again.

A problem: Office 2003 is from Microsoft but OpenOffice is from a different publisher. OpenOffice is free and can handle files from Microsoft Office which is not free. I prefer LibreOffice.

A note: I have Microsoft Office 2003 on one Win10 computer and Microsoft Office 2000 on another, both handle the basics just fine but I haven't tried any of the more advanced features yet. And I have not had occasion to try Microsoft Office XP/2002 on Win10 yet.

    Welcome aboard, Roehrle.

I THINK that Berton is correct. You are confusing two different Office programs.

I suggest that you download the free Open Office, and it should run well on Windows 10.

    Hi.
Office 2003 will indeed run on W10, I have FrontPage from an Office 2003 disk installed on one of my rigs right now, and it works fine. Your problem is with the key code - something is wrong; perhaps even one character is incorrect? If you still have the XP or W7 system where it was previously running fine, and, if it hasn't been uninstalled from there yet, you could install Belarc Advisor on it, to get the list of software keys, including Office 2003 for comparison to what you think it is.

Just for the record, OpenOffice is a open-source, free alternative to the Microsoft line of Office products. LibreOffice is an offshoot of OpenOffice, with a more aggressive feature/update schedule. LibreOffice is a very good alternative; even able to open Publisher files.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi there

Office 2003 works fine on W10 -- don't confuse with Office XP or Office 2002 which DO have problems.

BTW if you want a much better FREE compatible office suite than Libre Office try WPS office (Runs on both Linux and Windows).

WPS Office 2016 Personal Edition - For Home and Student

note though there's no email client included.

It is extremely compatible with Ms office -- even quite complex EXCEL spreadsheets -- and if you use a load of VBA stuff the PRO version handles that too -- but for most purposes unless you are a mega excel power user the Free version is perfectly good enough. Also handles xlsx files too (Office 2013 / 2016 formats).

    cheers

Thanks for all the replies but my question is...Why does not the new HP computer NOT accept the 25 character code that I have enter many times. I know the code is right because it has worked on two different computer which all have quit working.
I tried OpenOffice but it does not run the several programs I have written in Excel 2003

So, the computers that you had it on no longer run? So you can't grab the key there by running Belarc Advisor, just to compare...
Well, you could try the MS Answer Desk and see what they say about your key. Sometimes they get blocked after too many installs.

Have you tried LibreOffice with your Excel 2003 stuff?

I tried Libreoffice and got the same results. I believe part of my problem may be that my programs used VB6 a lot and I haven't had a chance to add VB6 yet.
I took the hard drive out of my old computer that had Win7 and the MS office2003 on it. I tried putting it into my Eagle consus but the plugs weren't compatible. What would be the cheapest way I could get the info from this hard drive because I am not sure the HD wasn't my problem on my old computer. Being retired I don't have the money to waste on things I won't use in the future.
I found my VB6 disk and got it installed. My old MS excel programs are now calling for the Macros that I used so I guess I will need to recover them from the old HD. Seems like the macros should have been included in my programs that I wrote ??

I can't say, because I am not a VB user, but you would think that macros created in Excel files, are saved with the files. Every Excel file I've made with a macro, has always remained intact when I moved it. I'm afraid I can't help you with that one. Hopefully someone else will pop in and have an answer for you.

I don't know how to extract a key from a pulled hard drive. I only have ever run Belarc Advisor on a working system, to grab keys and save them. Again, sorry, but I'm not of much help there either.

@simrick is correct - VB6 and VBA function separately. What specific error is given when you enter the key? Does it just "this key won't work blah, blah"?

..it's strange that the installations that were working no longer work (I assume this to mean it's become de-activated?)
