w10 update caused problems with all apps

Two days ago I was happily using this machine (a dell755) which has been running W10 for about 6 months now. Up until then no issues but then there was an automatic update and after that completed I found I have lost all connectivity for my apps!!!.

To explain, the PC is working fine in its desktop mode and connections to the internet work fine in Chrome, IE, FIrefox, email and all my regular links. ( I am even able to log this post fine). However non of my W10 apps will connect - all I get is a message saying they cannot connect to the internet. The same is true of Store and of Edge so basically I seem to have got a W7 type of machine now. All the apps show and try and start but as soon as they need an internet connection they fail. I cant even log on to my MS account via the apps as this also fails due to no being able to connect. This is most odd as everything else works fine on the internet. Another virtually identical machine running the same OS and connected in the same way (Ethernet) to the same router and running almost the same software did the same update and is still working fine with none of these issues at all!

Alas, due to having done a big clean-up a little while ago I forgot to reactivate my restore points so find I don't even have one available now to reset to (lesson learned there)

So does anyone have any ideas on how to fix or overcome this? - or I'm I doomed to have to do a clean reinstall -which of course I would rather not have to do?

many thanks for that - I gave it a shot but things have not worked - there was loads of red at the end and I still get messages saying the apps need to connect to the internet and advising there is no current connection - but the desktop is still working fine and is connected as I am writing this.! Its as though the apps side of w10 has somehow lost the ability to communicate with anything from the net.

    Suggestion:
    Do a Repair Install.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Repair Install allows you to keep your files, settings and apps.
    No product key is required.
    Activation is automatic.

No. You will not lose anything, but it may reset a few Windows settings back to default.

    Hi, what I've noted:
An in-place upgrade repair will refresh Windows, after the manner of a Windows installation.
    - all/most associations will be unchanged
    - all your programs will be left installed
    - you will lose any custom fonts
    - you will lose any customised system icons
    - you may need to re-establish your Wi-Fi connection
    - you will need to redo Windows updates subsequent to the build you have used for the repair install
    - Windows.old will be created
    - system restore will be turned off- you can turn it on again and I suggest you manually schedule a daily restore point.
    - you will need to redo any language downloads including the display language if you changed that)

Thanks folks - I may well do the refresh sometime over the weekend when I have some time - although I am now in two minds whether to do a clean install and upgrade to w10 64bit which would make better use of my installed memory. I have 5 pcs on my network and all were upgraded from w7 but one was already was 64 bit so is running W10 64 bit and I notice it is significantly better/faster than those running the 32 bit versions, and so as all the machines are 64 bit capable, maybe a gradual change to 64 bit on all would not be a bad idea!

Can I do the in place upgrade from the w10 ISO DVD from which I installed W10? - the video only mentions using the iso file but I don't have a means of mounting an ISO.

Yes - that's what I do. If the tutorial doesn't cover that please feel free to comment on it - it ought to.
But the tutorial also points out the major build level must be the same.

Mounting iso's is native to Win 10 by the way- just right click and click Mount.
However, sometimes the Mount option disappears....
    - usually when iso is associated with another program.
