Do I have to update the recovery disk as well?
    WinPE Screen Resolution
The screen resolution is now selectable while booted in WinPE. Use the menu option 'Other Tasks' > 'Screen Resolution...'
If you're satisfied with the resolution of the recovery disk, no. In version 6 free(just like the paid) you can also add a boot menu option and it is automatically updated.

Thanks for the heads up Cliff! Just ran the update on my W8.1 install and will do so on my W7 install later.
As usual LittleJay you're very welcome:)

    Hi there

I know a lot of people have been quite happy with Free Macrium (and it's certainly better than nothing) --however I get the feeling that companies who offer the Freebies are gradually trying to wean people off those and make them "Go Pro" --i.e PAY.

V6 has TWO big bugbears AFAIK -- No more Linux ISO's so you need to create a Winpe bootable system for stand alone restores -- a bit of a bugbear and takes ages to boot if you use it on older hardware and it makes serious use of VSS which means you need to have quite a bit of SPARE SPACE on the drive you are imaging or cloning.

I've always gone for paid software since backup and recovery for me is essential (and considering the time I've saved too) so I use Acronis. There isn't any issue with having to use a WINPE system (although you can optionally create one).

The Linux ISO (also works from a USB stick ) boots up almost instantly and you are ready to go. Acronis also lets you MOUNT backed up images and browse it just like another HDD if you just need to restore a file or two.

Obviously Free Macrium is far far better than NONE but V6 is a version too far IMO.

    Cheers

As does Macrium free. Too many failures with Acronis, went downhill circa 2011 imho.

You're welcome. Yup I got home from work, fired up the machine, Got my update, I believe we all will need to recreate our WinPE recovery environments to, though. That means tomorrow morning I need to redo my Boot Option and my flash drive.

Updated Macrium on my W10 install, as well as the WAIK so I could create a new WinPE. Then created an image of my W10 install. Was happy to see that creating a W10 image now takes about the same time as my W8.1 install. Whereas before this latest update, W10 images were much slower.

I'll have a few questions on this new release later. It added about 1gig to my ssd after installing this update! 500 is just in the boot folder on c:\ plus a lot of files it added to the windows folder and sub folders in windows. Not sure if I like that yet. Time will tell.
