Have found the Lightroom Import does exactly what I need there.

So I have a choice of learning some new software to do the tagging, or learning how to do it with Lightroom. I'll try the LR method first.
I've found it also imports equally happily from my phone and my camera, and whilst the tagging works it's not as easy as the Photo Gallery for a variety of reasons. However I can live with it.

Another Issue w/ WLPG : choppy pictures when advancing to the right

When advancing to the right from one photo to another in WLPG parts of the previous picture come along. In the advanced picture I will be looking at parts of two pictures. When advancing to the left there is no chopped up picture. Thinking this was an HP Spectrex360 issue I sent my laptop in for repair. HP returned the laptop stating it wasn't their issue. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, and used the repair function. All of which didn't change the behavior. My other two PCs, an HP i7 Pavilion (~5 years old) and a Microsoft Surface Pro (i5), both upgraded to Windows 10 have not displayed the behavior noted above. On the Microsoft forum a recent Dell laptop owner described the same issue.

Any suggestions / Has anyone else experience the choppy picture behavior described here and have a solution?

I've used WLPG for a long time and like it, but I have the crashing problem which on and off makes it impossible to use.

    I'm looking for an alternative.
    • I could do all the importing to the PC from the camera with Bridge.
    • I might also be able to do it with Lightroom, have never looked to see if it can do exactly what I want, happy to continue using Bridge.
    • I can use Lightroom for all the editing
    • It's the tagging I really liked in WLPG, and the way I could use it to search for untagged photos, and how it handled the hierarchy of tags I have.
    • The native Photos app doesn't deal with tagging, indeed it doesn't display existing tags, plus it's IMHO clumsy in comparison maybe because it's intended to work on touch-screens as well.

So any suggestions? I'm using a conventional desk-top PC with a mouse & keyboard, not a touch-screen device.
    • It must pick up and use the existing tagging hierarchy
    • Would prefer to be able to use the same program for import & tagging
    • of course I'd much prefer something that's free!

I too experienced this problem after upgrading to Windows 10.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron laptop with Intel graphics driver. I seem to have fixed the problem by updating the graphics driver. To do this I opened Device Manager, right-clicked on the Display Adapter in question (Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500),
selected "Update driver software ... " from the menu and use the "Search automatically ... " option. This seemed to fix the problem with WLPG (Windows Photo Gallery 2012) without the need for a reboot. (I did then have a problem with Evernote not scrolling, but a reboot seems to have fixed that, hopefully.)
