Hmmm, my instructions are so confusing?

    1) copy my ie6setup.exe over the original
    2) run setup.exe

So when is the time for the installer to run ie6setup.exe, it, my version of it, can write the registry key to fool the installer that ie6 has been correctly installed.

You can't put the key prior to run the installer because it clears it a moment before calling ie6setup.exe.

AHA !! I was confused by the elaborate explanation of the processes. It was far simpler to say this- copy your two files to Redist folder (do nothing else with these) then run PIP setup.

Now I see where the program, halfway through, is trying to install IE6 (this is where it got stuck before) and instead of stopping, your bat window flashes and the installation FINISHED !!!

This is not the same version (Picture It! 2002) I had when I had XP but now projects that I have saved since as far back as 2003 are running in version 10 which has the same tools, different locations. It's like finding a dear old friend ! I can't thank you enough for your work and patience with me. Take care.

Ahahahah, you are right ... and you are wrong, the file needed to copy over is only the exe, the bat is "into" it!

    Anyway, I'm happy too!

A confirmation: I came across my Picture It! Premium 10 earlier today and followed the instructions by first copying the contents of the CD to a Folder on my HDD then made the modifications as specified. After running the setup from that Folder and verifying that it worked I then burned a new CD for archiving.

I hadn't used a .bat to .exe converter is some time called BAT2EXEC [like back in Win95/98 days, maybe MS-DOS and Win3.xx] but glad to find one that works on Win10.

    Hi Berton

Thanks for reporting your positive report!

    @simrick

I have managed to have a disk of Picture It! 7. I have downloaded it from this link, hosted on this archived page.

My patch works also with it. I'm on Windows 10 1709 64 bit.

The problem installing it aroses with the latest version of Windows 10 (Fall Creators Update 1709) because now it pretends to install Internet Explorer 6 but you can't have more than one version of it and the latest version is 11.

The installation ends telling that a critical component can't be installed so the product cannot be installed.

This happens probably because something is changed in the way Windows 10 or Internet Explorer 11 writes that info into the Windows registry so it is no more recognized by old installation programs.

I haven't found the missed registry keys but I have found the posted workaround.

Thanks to mrgeek's feedback, I have reorganized my Guide and now it should be as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Furthermore, the problem with the Library (it doesn't start) on a fresh clean install of Windows 10 FCU 1709 32 bit and 64 bit is solved!

I'm going to try the process in a couple of days on the Digital Imaging Suite 9 [©2003] I just came across in my box of saved programs. Will report on it.

EDIT: This DIS 9 is a set of 2 CDs so probably will need to create a new Disc 1 [rather than install from Folder] to make the install work to call for the second disc.

So, because I already had the software installed prior to upgrading to the Fall Creators Update, I didn't have the problem. But if someone were to try and install it on the FCU, it would error - got it. Thanks.

Thanks, much easier to follow. Only suggestion -
"If the PI installation media is an ISO file, just open it and it will appear and behave like a CD." will not allow your ie6setup to replace orig in Redist/IE6 folder because ISO is like closed CD (can't add files). If one has ISO instead of installation disc, they should mount ISO, then copy complete ISO contents to a new folder (PIDISK) which will allow file manipulation and run setup.exe from folder.
Thanks again for your hard work on this project.
