Well I will keep an eye on it but it seems to be functioning normally. so maybe it did rebuild the index!!! I will mark as solved. But will update on whether it keeps behaving! Cheers guys
Good. Win 10 is sometimes weirder than its predecessors. I'd had the old Win update appearing until recently (not the Settings version) - and it shouldn't have been apparently. So suddenly it disappeared from the control panel (after an in-place upgrade install I think), and I was surprised to see the Settings version. But I also got the unhelpful 'Some settings are managed by your organisation' - only on the Win update dialogues. A few attempts later at hacking the registry etc, with partial success, I looked back again and that legend had disappeared completely.
