XBOX Media Player App, play by track number?

Does anybody know how to get the XBOX One Media player app to play mp3 files by the ID3 Tag track number, instead of alphabetically by file name? Or if its even possible to access any settings for that App? The only settings menu I can find on the XBOX is its settings menu. I have no idea how, or if you can, access settings individually for an App. I only just bought the XBOX yesterday so I am a complete noob with this piece of gear. I haven't owned a game console in many many years. I don't own a smart phone either, not sure that would help, but I'll mention it anyway. It's a bit of a pain to play and album and have the tracks played out of order.

Where is the music coming from, is it local on the xbox (or a USB) or are you streaming it from your PC

I only have the 360, but have found if you are streaming from PC you get alphabetic listing by track

If its local have you tried the Groove app, I know on the 360 it wont play local, but the One runs Win 10 so it might do

It's on a USB thumb drive plugged in the back. On the ONE you can't put any media on the actual had drive. I installed the "TRIAL" version of Groove but it didn't see the thumb drive. It just wanted to play everything from the internet. If the Media App has a settings menu, I have no idea how you open it. I am going to have another go at it today. I got so frustrated with the XBOX last night I just turned it off. I haven't tried to stream media from my PC. I'd rather not do that unless I have to, I don't leave my PC on when not in use.

EDIT: They call it Windows 10, but it has almost no resemblance to Windows 10 on a PC. I have to navigate everything with the game controller or media remote, something I'm not used to.

Unfortunately I am not sure on this, hopefully someone with a one will have better ideas

I do remember that the Media App is a new addition, people complained that there was no way to play local media so this was created, which is more limited than previous version (360 version)

Good Luck, I know a few people with the One, so will ask them, but don't think they use local media

I'll have another go at it latter on today. I may look for a better app too. Right now I'm just going to forget about it and have a cup of Java and browse the forum a bit. Thanks for the input anyway. If I find out anything I'll post back here.

    Hi there,
Found myself confronted to the same problem today.
Here is my workaround: name your tracks using disc and track numbers and then save them separately after having deleted all ID3 tags. In this way, the xbox looks for tags, doesn't find any, and has to use track names to sort alphabetically. Done !
    1. name all files with disc number_track number_whatever you prefer here using for instance the free application Mp3 Tag Tools.
    2. I quite a noob/ignorant with tags and stuff, so I didn't manage to get Mp3 Tag Tools to delete all ID3 tags, but there's another wonderful little app doing that for you: ID3 Kill.

PS: since you will want to use all those wonderful ID3 tags in other - smart - applications, you'll have to save the tagless files separately. That's the price to pay unfortunately... unless someone else comes up with a better suggestion
Hope it helps, it helped me !

I have 50 gigs on music, 57 artists. Renaming all the files isn't going to happen. I just went back to playing them from KODI on my Raspberry Pi.
