Windows 10: Windows Media Player won't play .flv files

It has been over a month now.
What is the status regarding using WMP ?
Is it still working ?
WMP works, although for some reason double-clicking on some filetypes doesn't open it and I have to open it first then drag and drop or something. For many filetypes the file opens but doesn't start playing - I have to switch to the player and click play.
I might say that VLC used to have a hissing/crackling sound, which is why I switched to WMP, particularly after I found codecs for WMP, but it's fine now. I suppose I'll use VLC. Thanks for the comments!
Just type "vlc alternative" or "windows media player alternative " in google, and then you will get many good players to play your flv files.
I have never been able to play Flash files in any version of Windows Media Player. At previous job for over ten years managing quarterly presentations, and would often be asked to play videos from the web. I would usually go in to IE's cache and take the .flv files, and could never get them to play in WMP. Until I discovered VLC, I was always having to play them in IE.
I hardly see this as a negative for Windows 10. Flash should have died years ago. If Windows Media Player was as full featured as you'd like, some other company would end up suing due to "anti-competitive practives".
Since Win 10 update I can longer play MP4 videos I used to be able to play in Win 7, using Windows Media Player.
Why has this function stopped? I thought win 10 was an "improvement".
This is the error message - Windows Media Player cannot...
I'd like to know why windows media player won't play my media files after a reboot. Didn't change codecs. Didn't delete anything.
I did try to restore cos I suddenly couldn't go online but the restore said that it didn't work so I assume nothing...
Just installed windows 10. I can still use my recording program with my Firepod, but it absolutely refuses to play any system audio. I try to play test tones and it says "failed to play tone!" or something to that effect. No amount of setting...
Trying to play a movie off of my E:\ drive and it plays with good audio and video for about 3 seconds. Then it starts acting like it's buffering from the internet and pausing for several seconds before playing again...ultimately crashing the program...
only media player and groove music don't play audio, other apps play mp3 and wav.
( MP and MG plays noises :( )
how i fix this ?
i have IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
