Version 5 is still working. That's what I use.

Why do you have to jump on version 6. What's wrong with version 5 where I never had a problem.
Sure if it meets your needs. Same is true of any software.

However new versions equal more options usually.

I particularly like the new differential backups and the ability to make it as a boot option (so unless hdd fails or OS is badly corrupted, you do not even need a boot stick).

Frankly, I'm surprised you're still not on DOS 5 with 8" floppies.

I blundered and lost my images. I tried 3 links and each said free not trial. When I started the install process, then and ony then, the only option was trial.
I guess I asked too late - we will see. This is not sour grapes but I like Aomei and it is faster.
    Thank you for the information.

I have tested the latest version of Aoemi on my pc, and it was slower. Speed is not really the issue but overall reliability. Todo Easeus is quite slow compared with MRF but very reliable.

However, any sensible person makes an image backup with two different programs (occasionally), in case one inexplicably craps out.

I have just found MRF to be the most reliable over a wide range of devices, so it is my personal default, but I also backup now and then with Easeus Todo as well which has also been reliable.

At the end of the day, it really does not matter too much, as the main packages are 'converging' in features and reliability. IMO, the most important thing is to use the one you like and USE IT REGULARLY.

Just to update this thread. The offline installer for Macrium Reflect Free V7.1 can be downloaded using Macrium's download manager here:

    http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v7/ReflectDL.exe

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer software that can be installed without needing to be constantly connected to the web. I don't see why we have to search for links like this, why does the main Macrium Free download page only offer the ReflectDLHF.exe web installer?

You are quite right, that's what I like to do whenever possible. I like to keep all installation files, even have special folder only for programs currently installed together with their licenses if required. Full offline backup for it too.

I rather disagree. If you use a web installer, it will always ensure you have the latest version.

It's easy to update if you ever need to. There are times when internet is too slow or non existent at the time you have to install a program.

It's a case of Six or two threes, I normally Download a standalone installer for any complex install, but use simple web installers for other day to day installs.

My general preference is for an offline installer for any security product, as the Risk Exists, (although only small these days ), that you could be open to the web in an unprotected state for a time.

I come from Industry where installs could be required for many systems, and in the days where unlimited cheap internet was a rarity at best, so the way was always download, Test install and modify the installer to suit needs of the job, then either use the modified installer and or create an image for multiple usage.

    It's difficult to change habits

    Agreed...

The Web Installer is a more intelligent option (can determine the environment, select best server etc... so all good there), but if I had to jump either side, I'll go with Bree and Mike and have a portable installer... Macrium should just make sure they have the latest on their server...
