How do I go about an app purchase with a local account?

    Hi,

How do I make an app purchase using a local account? Do I need to switch to a Microsoft account? Is there a way to switch to a Microsoft account temporarily?

I'm going to be doing a clean install of Windows 10 because of issues I'm having with it. I believe I will lose the free DVD player eligibility.

First of all the DVD player is not interesting. You can use VLC which is better and free so forget it.

If you really want to not use a MS account you can sign into apps individually.

Obvioulsy you have to use a MS account (you can make up a new one if you want) to get something from the store.

To repeat myself though (I do that, sorry) if you only want the ability to play DVD it is not worth even thinking about it.

To answer your question, you can't buy (or get) anything with only a local account and you can't move it either.

I found the directions on this site to sign in to the store with Microsoft account and keep local account. However when I click on the icon to sign in to the store and choose Microsoft account, it shows a little circle going around and around and nothing happens!

I do need to fix this so I can make purchases.

You can only buy something from the MS store with your MS account.

You can sign on with a local (non-MS account) but you can't use apps you bought.

Please, if you can, explain if you are currently signed on as a MS account (Alicia_J@something.com) or not (you just enter Alica and your password)

Please don't post your actual email address though.

I understand that I need to use a Microsoft account to make a purchase. I read on this website how to make a purchase with Microsoft account and still be signing into my computer with a local account. I use a local account to sign in to my computer.

Once an app is bought and paid for, just as with the free apps, you should be able to use the paid ones without signing into your computer with a Microsoft account.

Perhaps. Some the free ones you can (weather for example), some you can't (mail, ,onedrive, store for example). I'm not 100% sure what you can and not use without an account though, some you can use signing into individually.

What is the app you have a problem with?

I'm going to reinstall Windows 10 using a clean install and I'm pretty sure I need to pay for a DVD player. I would like it to work so that I can buy from the App Store. I'm thinking that a clean install might solve that problem too.

    @ Alicia J:

Don't pay for the Windows DVD Player App, (not just yet anyway!), the app is very 'infantile' in it's development.
Many have reported terrible latency issues with it. Test it out first.
I have it and it plays maybe 1 in 50 DVD's fairly decently. Others, it stutters like crazy.
