EDIT: Also downloaded Slim Build and it does have it. It just looks like a quick clean option for this lot:

I am more and more thinking of either ditching ccleaner or using the portable version, Does Pro have a portable version?

Do you mean the System options at the bottom of the list? Those have been there for a very long time.

I'm using ccleaner for many years now without any problems. I use it among other things to avoid being forced to do a fresh install of Windows because of to much garbage left behind! It would take me weeks to fine-tune all my hundreds programs. Ccleaner helps me to get rid of all the crap that many software leaves behind.

My Windows 10 systyem on my laptop is running for over three years now without any "refresh".
An old Windows 2000 system I had was running for over 18 years without reinstall. Windows is not easy to keep running smoothly but it can be done with a little bit of patience and some "Snake Oil"...

One thing about the new revisions of CCleaner is that the Software Update feature is flawed in many respects.
My suggestion is to steer away from it until these issues are addressed.

I also see that the overall product is becoming bloated and this is of concern to me.

You're right about ccleaner sadly is becoming bloated. Regarding the update feature I have never used it lately. I'm always downloading it from filehippo.com and then doing a AV-scan with virustotal.com. It will report it as "Win32/Bundled.Toolbar.Google.D potentially unsafe".

After 10 years, I ditched CCleaner, due to all the latest issues most likely attributable to it's new owners, Avast.
If you want to avoid the bloatware, get the slim version from here

Did you allow the Google Toolbar to be installed by leaving it checked upon install of CCleaner?
If so, just go into add/remove programs, find and uninstall it.

BTW - @ddelo - It is still bloated, even with Slim.
