    Hi folks

My view on these types of products are that they are slightly better than "snake oil".

These days if you take decent backups before doing anything with a computer like installing software that doesn't have proper uninstall details then you won't need any of these things -- a macrium (free) restore for example on an average machine from say an external SSD shouldn't take more than around 15 mins anyway.

If your machine is in such a state that you need to use these types of products you probably would be better off doing a complete fresh windows re-install.

    cheers

If Windows and applications tidied up after themselves properly then cleaners would not be needed but they leave unnecessary files scattered around the system gobbling up valuable SSD storage.

Jimbo, you are welcome to your opinion, but I do not think it is shared by all. This thread has been active for 4 1/2 years, so the product has value to many.
    Hi there

    @f14tomcat

4 1/2 years is a geological era in the time frame of computing -- products that were absolutely essential back then (for example a load of Anti Virus Software etc) has been rendered obsolete in the evolution of modern OS'es, hardware, software etc.

Just because a product has existed for a lengthy period doesn't always mean that its continued existence is either desirable or even merited.

People perhaps should take stock of what they actually have on their computers every so often -- older products invented when there was a real need for them --fine but later developments might certainly offer no extra value due to improvements in OS etc.

If people want to use these things --that's 100% fine -- I'm just saying you might get better value by simply taking regular backups and restoring if a messy product gets installed on to your machine --in any case with decent care those hideously bad behaved products that need special measures to uninstall them shouldn't really get installed in the first place.

    Cheers

    Hi there

That look more complex to understand for me than just running a simple Macrium image / Restore disk !!!!!!

Just downloaded the portable version and there's no Easy Clean present.

EDIT: Also downloaded Slim Build and it does have it. It just looks like a quick clean option for this lot:

Updated to CCleaner 5.57 (free version) last night and I don't see any Easy Clean option?

Might have something to do with me always installing/updating CCleaner with the PC disconnected from the Internet these days? After the install/update I disable and delete the 2 CCleaner items in Task Scheduler then delete CCleaner Update from the Program Files folder.

And, before reconnecting to the Internet I use OneClickFirewall to prevent CCleaner from accessing the Internet (tried Windows Firewall once but it just seemed to ignore my settings for blocking CCleaner... hmm.). This also stops things like the annoying "Black Friday" flyout ads from last year appearing.
