Just a heads up for everyone in case it hasn't already been mentioned.
The last 2 versions of CCleaner (536 and now 537) add a new entry in Task Scheduler:
This is in addition to the "Skip UAC" entry that has been there for years. My screenshot is from Windows 7 (I don't have a Windows 10 machine to try it on at the moment but it is probably the same).
The update task is added even though I unticked "Automatically check for updates to CCleaner" during the install. I've also checked in the Options settings after the install is complete and "Automatically check for updates to CCleaner" is unticked but the scheduled task is still there.
I don't know what happens if the task is running when a new CCleaner version is released (I disabled and deleted the task when I noticed it after installing 536 a week or so back). Hopefully it would just advise that a new version is available but it would be a bit of a worry if CCleaner updated itself and installed Avast at the same time without the users' knowledge.![]()
As I had not been reading advice offered in this forum got caught with the unwanted Avast install.
To anyone updating CCleaner not wishing to install Avast untick the box...see attachment.
