CCleaner was my go to program for freeing up junk and doing wipes on XP. But since I had to deal with the FloxIf / Windows Pioneerr virus and reading about how it started via CCleaner releases being compromised. I am not too sure anymore about CCleaner.
The popularity of it is too staggering nowadays as with Google.
For wiping I prefer something like BCwipe.
Avast Premium literally shows off leftover Regedits not in use, old/out-dated programs, and so much more.
I would have to test, VirusTotal, and run checks in Virtual machine ( or Sandbox I guess ) in order to make sure CCleaner actually functions.
If you blind-fully select everything. Like how I removed the "System Restore" via CCleaner it can caused problems down the road.
System-Restore ( where your system and other files are optionally backed up to a specific state ) is the only reason I am able to use my current setup the way it is, after dealing with Floxif. If I had perform a system restore back up and had installed anti-virus ( like Avast or Maleware Bytes ) directly afterwards I would have prevented myself from dealing with the problems of computing devices.
You also might try playing with this app ...its free and works pretty good. Finds things that CCleaner misses.
