It looks like you disabled it somehow as that message isn't the one you get when you simply turn off protection. Maybe it's a group policy thing?

    Like Option One.

Enable or Disable System Restore in Windows

    The image below?
Yes I use group policy to turn some things off, your correct.

The above recent posts are indicative of very poor software engineering. I will no longer use CCleaner as a result, This is normally called shooting yourself in the foot.

Curious how long it will take before they wake up...........

Strange , some people seem to be not affected by this bug !
They suggest there is something wrong with my system , when I tell them ; using the previous version of CCleaner , all is fine and the bug is gone , no answers anymore.................

Doubt there is anything wrong with your system. I just did the trick Mike used with GPEDIT to disable System Restore. It worked to keep 6.03 from turning Protection back on because there was no Protection to turn ON. I set it all back and restored 6.02. IMO, I'll wait for a "corrected" release, this one is "soiled".........

I think I may give up on CCleaner.
There are alternatives I have already seen in this forum.
Me now I'm going to use the portable version to avoid software that could be installed during the update, and I put in a folder the latest portable version which works without bugs.

An alternative view: Disable auto update checks and only update if new releases remain major bug free after a week or so. Also note that Slim Build contains no extras that could be installed.

Thanks. I would also think of the slim version and the other tips.

Dont think disabling the VSS-service is a good solution .
Installing previous over the buggy-latest ( or using a Macrium-backup ) will eliminate the bug............
