no wonder M$ lists CCleaner as a PUP.

    KB.

    Hi, KBird,

Just a suggestion, if not already, give the 'Portable" version a try.

Yes I have that on my USB Key with my other portable tools for fixing Firends and Families computers
but just upgraded the existing version and after the Warning of PUPS on the 1st page I made sure to uncheck it
but it still install a 750mb browser ...Sheesh.... it's no wonder MS Defender flags their software these days.

MS Defender also has Never flagged my CCleaner Pro either. I've always used Pro, the price is not much at all.

I would assume then that the paid version , does not have these unwanted addons , but I guess these days "Free" isn't really free ,
I'd just hope they respect your choice of unchecking the Install box but apparently not.

You must be right because on my paid version there is nothing to uncheck as far as a browser. I've been running CCleaner for years.

Wow, KB, that is odd. I'm sorry for your troubles.

That is specifically why I use the portable version (no bloatware). This is concerning, or should be to all.

I'm at a loss, buddy. But wish you the best of luck.

I use the Free version too.

    Using CCleaner Free here.

I always disconnect from the Internet when installing or updating CCleaner. Been doing that since Avast bought Piriform about 5 years ago.

    This is what I do:

    1. Disconnect from Internet.
    2. Install CCleaner.
    3. Delete the CCleanerUpdate executable from Program Files > CCleaner.
    4. Use OneClickFirewall to block Internet access to Program Files > CCleaner and CCleaner64. Just need to right click and select "Block Internet Access" with OneClickFirewall.
    5. End, disable and delete the CCleanerUpdate entry in Task Scheduler. The other entry just skips the User Account Control prompt and it just keeps recreating and re-enabling itself if you delete it so I just leave it (only started doing that recently).
    6. Check to make sure the Privacy and Update options (everything turned off, of course) haven't changed during an update.
    7. Re-connect to Internet.

No sign of the CCleaner browser or any attempt to install it so far. I also have 9 Avast and Piriform IP addresses blocked in the Windows Hosts file. This is probably a bit of overkill with all of the other steps I've taken but better safe than sorry.
