That's what they told me, as well. I wrote back to say that they could do a better job of the report pop-up after a second click. "could not be updated: Purchase/Register/Cancel" seems crude, unenlightening, and just plain misleading to me.OldMike65 said:
Update:
From a volunteer, I think, at CC support today:
"Based on the issue you described that you tried to update your copy of CCleaner and that it showed this pop-up with 3 buttons "Purchase, Register, Cancel" which could be misleading as you've mentioned.
With this pop-up, if you have a paid license, you'll only need to click "Register" button to key in your registration details, once our server detected your paid license your update will proceed."
That's as ridiculous as "blogs down their server." I've written back, but my reply was so filled with expletives that I can't post it here.
The point is that the "can't be updated ... Purchase/Register/Cancel" pop-up should never pop up. It doesn't matter whether I'm just re-checking or not. I want an "up to date" notice or an actual update. I said as much, but definitely not in those words.

FWIW, I found the little dust bunny Piriform drops on your machine to trigger that obnoxious screen. I kept watching what it would clean each time I ran the cleaner. After cleaning, the normal "up to date" message is there, 2nd etc. times you get the Register/Purchase crap. When you click the check for updates, it writes a record as shown in my pic in the directory shown. It's flag as a hidden system file and directory, so to see it with Notepad, you have to allow hidden. Anyway, after it writes that and you get the dumb message, run the cleaner and it will delete the file entry, and next time you get Up to Date. Weeeeeeee!!
CCleaner needs to be told to go after the Internet Explorer cache.
