I've never used the portable version of CCleaner. I am curious as to how it functions. I read that it store my CCleaner settings in an .ini file, which is fine.
But does it otherwise operate just like the slim version? Also, will the portable version, like the slim version, keep trying to poke holes in my Bitdefender firewall?
Pretty much the same except that Slim installs and Portable doesn't.

    RE: The .ini file.

It's for saving your settings (disable certain functions) and it remembers but only if you actually configure it to do so.

Otherwise it just runs with default settings.

I think I might switch to the portable version, then. The slim and standard versions, take like 15 seconds to OPEN on my computer. Most other programs open instantly.

They are probably already in my 3rd party MVPS Hosts file. I'll need to check.

Anyone else experienced problems with 5.69.7865 ?

It worked okay for the first few runs then caused 100% disk usage and unresponsive system.

    Installed 5.68.7820 and no problems.

I've had no Disk Usage issues with 5.69.7865, and I've had it on here for 2 days, and used it quite a bit.

    There's reports here:

CCleaner Bug Reporting - CCleaner Community Forums

It's not affecting all users just like the browser plugin bug in the previous version. I'm just awaiting the next version to see if it's fixed.

No problems here with CCleaner 5.69.7865 -- not with disk usage or Defender flagging it as a PUP/PUA.

Mostly the freeze only happens if you run a cleanup and leave the window open for some time.

    EDIT: Quote from Ccleaner support:

This issue has been noted and is already under investigation by the developers.
It has now been reported with both Free and Pro versions.
It is only happening if you keep the CCleaner window open, or open/minimised to the taskbar.
If you close the CCleaner window then the rising CPU issue does not happen.
At the moment, until the developers can track down the problem and fix it, the best advice is not to leave the CCleaner window open or minimised but to close it after use.

I used CCleaner a long, long time ago. Uninstalled when all the issues came about. Since then I've been looking for an alternative. A number of posts here recommend Wise Disk Cleaner. I remember trying it a good while back and the reason I ended up uninstalling it as well was that every time you opened it up, you were presented with ads for their other products. I understand that that was just advertising . . . but that put me off. Has that changed? Does it just run clean, or are you still be presented with ads each start of the program?
