    just downloaded a small program called speccy and it's not in the programs list and right clicking does not pin it to start menu, but can pin to task bar.....almost looks like the pin to start menu is ghosted, doesn't seem as dark.....do I have a problem ?

    thanks
    It depends if you downloaded the portable or installer version. A portable only create a desktop icon. You will then have to jump through hoops like I showed you before. The installed version should put a shortcut in a Speccy folder(with uninstaller) or under Piriform.

    I installed speccy and there was no new apps and did not appear in program menu, so something is not right with installed apps appearing in the start menu.....although I can pin to the task bar from the shortcut.

    hope you can help me resolve this....thanks

    You could also try placing a copy of the shortcut in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

    thought I would check with add remove programs to see if a recently installed app could have caused This issue, none of the programs in add remove programs have dates attached, never seen this before...

    That is mighty odd, maybe some system files are corrupt. You can try running this in an admin command prompt, let it run through and then reboot. Then see how things look after:

    fsutil resource setautoreset true c:\&fsutil usn deletejournal /d /n c:&Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup&&sfc /scannow&Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth&sfc /scannow&Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase&pause

    Oh yeah it's safe. Those are commands that totally clean up and repair system files and component store(WinSxS Folder) basically what Windows Update cleanup does on Windows 8.

    Addition: The WinSxS folder is located in the Windows folder, for example c:\Windows\WinSxS. It’s the location for Windows Component Store files. The Windows Component Store is used to support the functions needed for the customization and updating of Windows.

    I use PicPick because the Windows Snipping Tool one has too few options.
