The convert command is not always necessary, but worth using as insurance. The USB you have now made should be bootable on any machine, uefi or legacy, so it looks like the problem lies elsewhere.

Thank you, Kyhi. I now understand what I did wrong, my fault for using the wrong procedure. I tested the created USB on my friend's working laptop and it booted perfectly. Unfortunately, the faulty laptop is mine and it doesn't boot into it. In UEFI, the screen goes blank after displaying the Acer logo for about two minutes. In legacy it goes as far as the W10 logo screen, stays there for about five minutes after which the screen flashes light blue and goes blank.

I have tried a hard reset and am now running Memtest86 on its own. Hopefully I'll get some insight as to what is wrong.

I have to switch my Acer to Legacy mode Bios to Boot Kyhi's USB Drive , as in UEFI it won't allow you to turn SecureBoot Off. I just format the USB drive Fat32 , right click on the Kyhi Iso and choose Open with File Explorer , (makes it look like a CD Drive) then Copy all files to the USB drive , and that's it done. none of the other stuff I just read about diskpart etc.

In legacy mode , that maybe Kyhi's Win10 Boot Logo you see ? ( blue square ) not the real Win10 loading , I like a USB drive with a LED for this stuff so I know it is being accessed. Not sure why it would fail to load after 5 mins though , HDD (SSD?) issue perhaps and it can't make the Temporary Drive but that maybe in Ram anyway? , Kyhi would be the best one to answer that.

Thanks for your reply. I discovered that setting a boot password allowed me to switch SecureBoot off, not that it made a difference for my faulty laptop. The USB definitely works as a working laptop did boot to the PESE.

Would an HDD issue prevent PESE from loading? I thought it was loaded to the RAM.

You would need at least 4GB memory to load PESE

Thank you for clarifying the difference between the screens. I have 6GB of RAM and managed to run Memtest86+ as a standalone on boot and it reported no errors. Would an HDD issue prevent PESE from loading?

Is your Win10PESE compatible with the Surface RT models (or any other ARM device)?
