Let's hope this works. I was too anxious to get this done. I had created the Windows recovery drive and then checked its contents. They looked similiar to me as the recovery partition. Just incase this only refreshes Windows 10, and the D partition will still be there so what will the next step be?

    That was the important thing.......

If it boots back into the windows 8.1 OS >
then you are going to reboot back into the recovery media, do not select keep my files, and do not select keep existing partitions.
But you will select Keeping this PC, otherwise you will start a very, very long disk wipe and format option..
That will RESET you PC back to factory, including the F11 feature...

It just finished restoring. I have a windows 8.1 with C drive only. All the other partitions are gone. There is no recovery drive as well.

Also there are no built in softwares that came with this pc. FML.

    Yup

Because the recovery media did not contain all the proper configuration files..

Thus as in other post, you needed to copy the recovery drive contents to an external source..

please post a pic of the /sources folder contents of the recovery media

Here is a program to help users with corrupt windows files..
This program will run System File Checker and DISM commands to repair an online Windows image
and will also look for the setup media to use as a repair source

    Step 1: Download and Extract > IMAGE_HEALTH to a root folder ( C:\image_health )
    Step 2: Right-Click IMAGE_HEALTH.CMD > Select Properties > Select Unblock
Step 3: Insert your Windows Setup Media ( Mounted ISO or DVD or USB )
Step 4: Right Click on IMAGE_HEALTH.CMD and Run as Administrator

To Download Official Windows Setup Media > Use Option #16
This Program supports any Windows 8/8.1/10 Setup Media with an Install.wim or an Install.esd

    Attachment 88640

    Image Health
    download

The Preferred Method Of Use To Fix file Corruption Would Be To Select

    Option 1 - /ScanHealth > if shows as Repairable,
    then
Option 2 - /RestoreHealth > if shows as Missing Source Files,
    then
    Option 3 - /RestoreHealth /source

    Note:
Dism uses the component store as it's main source for Image Repair, so best to Select Option 2
Before Selecting Option 3 and redirecting the repair source, to the Windows Setup Media..

Option 4 > will analyze the component store, it will tell you if the store needs to be cleaned up

Option 5 > will cleanup (Remove) superseded windows files over 45 days old in the component store

Option 6 > will cleanup (Remove) ALL superseded windows files in the component store

Option 7 > will run System File Checker - SFC /Scannow

Option 8 > will run Revert Pending Dism Actions (UnLock, The Locked Disk Message)

Option 9 > will run Disk Cleanup Manager in Extended Mode

Option 10 > will run CheckDisk on a Volume, to scan for and fix disk errors..

Option 11 > will run ShowKeyPlus to retrieve windows product key

Option 12 > will export 3rd Party System Drivers into a "Drivers" folder

Option 13 > will run a MS Tool that will Automatically move all the User files from the Windows.old folder to the corresponding locations within your new Windows installation.

Option 14 > will run a MS Tool that will Generate a GenuineTicket.xml File

    Option 15
    > will run Never10 to Enable or Disable the Windows 10 GWX Upgrade

Option 16 > will run a program to Download > MS Windows OS & MS Office < ISO's from TechBench

    Note: Option 0

There are log files to help you and others troubleshoot DISM and SFC issues..
Those *.Log files will be created on your Desktop as *.txt files..
So you can post them easily in a forum..
I've just signed up to this site.
Been having a problem with my laptop. 2 days ago a driver error occured whilst on firefox, everything was then extremely slow/ frozen so I forced shutdown.

Ever since then it has been very slow, getting stuck on boot screen for hours.

Finally got it running again so used cmd to dskchk and repair 3 bad sectors.
Still it is slow booting up and also whilst using programs.
I have a Windows 10 disc so was going to restore it all completely but before I did that, I came across this site.

Downloaded the Image Health file, extracted to root (:C) but when I right clicked on the .cmd file, there was no option to unblock anything.

I opened as admin and chose option 1. Says it'll take 5-15 mins but after 45 mins still nothing.

Have I done something wrong which is making it not work properly?

    Thanks

It is running a DISM command > you wrote you are having issues...
The time estimate - is just an estimate and out of anyone's control..

You should just let it run and see what happens...

As you already figured > you would have to do a Restore anyway...

The laptop has pretty much frozen so I think I will just restore to factory settings and hope.

Image Health loaded and scanned, found a problem so I used option 2 which failed, I then loaded from source (cd drive), this also failed.

    Error: 0x800f081f

So if I used this windows 10 setup disk to reinstall then I'm guessing the problem will still be there.
