I've been making custom PE boot discs for a while. I tried this out, and it's pretty good. I did add quite a bit to it, however. I added MiniXP and MiniLinux one can boot into for lower-end OS utilities; Grub4Dos, GParted, Kon-Boot, eXtended FDisk, Victoria, NTFS4Dos, Microsoft DaRT, a large array of DOS GUI brand-specific hard drive utilities and offline password bypass tools, memory and system diagnostic tests, NTFS DOS Pro, SMART Drive live readings and a plethora of other things. Added QEMU so I can run these commands from within the PE environment, and also updated the .wim with the registered version of Macrium Reflect (which I actually did pay for and use on my desktop/laptop).

I find your side programs very convenient, too. I was never fond of typing Dism commands. :)

    Hi,

Do you have a link to your WinPE ?

    Regards ! :)
Well OldMike kinda' hit the nail on the head. I have never put my PE disks up other than a very few places where making PE recovery disks is something we do well and it's the theme of the two large coding/scripting/disk creation sites and forums out there (I won't name them) that I participate in. Granted it's not hard to make them, but unless you run it in pure GUI DOS or command line, people will have to modify their own to make them work, even in the pre-installation environment, without any problems.

Making PE disks that're basically an OS that you can run on a USB drive and add a bunch of stuff to to make it seem like a diagnostic OS doesn't appeal to me as much as actual GUI DOS/command line/Super FDisk, etc. utilities and tools. THOSE are the utilities that have saved my butt before, and many precious partitions, harddrives, incorrectly flashed BIOS' etc. The PE versions are nice for more simplistic things, but believe me, if you get into just trying to make these across various OS', you'll want one with about 130-150 steroid-infused programs that have been re-coded and work outside of an OS of any kind, even a PE. And this is definitely no knock on good PE builds like in this thread. Perhaps I like the rush of not having an "Are you REALLY sure you want to do this?" pop-up

That is his PERSONAL version, not for public download.
Well I wasn't intending to hijack. I certainly was not going to start posting recovery disks. I just got off this one on my laptop and it runs very smoothly and works well. Unbeknownst to me, one of my harddrives has a but of a cluster issue and I didn't even know since chkdsk said everything was kosher. Then again, I also never check any of that on my laptop since really I only use it as a gateway for the NAS setup I have for backups.

    @DrEmpiricism
    Good Post Dr ... :)
My only thought posting my comment was you made that for yourself, and for your computer, plus you added registered apps that you bought. I just didn't think that you had any thoughts of making it public....or sending it to someone thru private mail.
    Take Care, Mike :)

Nope. I don't do that and wouldn't do that here. If I were to provide a custom PE disk with various features I'd create my own thread for it.

As stated, the disk by the OP is good. I used it on my laptop and found out I had a slight harddrive issue that regular chkdsk seemed to miss. This is a nice PE rescue disk because it's simple and isn't cluttered with a bunch of junk (so many are). I added my own odds 'n ends but mostly I use DISM to add drivers more than anything, and update some things to full versions (since I have purchased the full versions). Overall this is a great recovery disk for those wanting to troubleshoot outside of Windows itself.

Modify PESE is a script to help users make modifications to the current rescue disks,
How they are used and what is added, updated or modified is for the user to decide...
These where created for the general forum user..

    Enjoy!!

Well, I am just saying that I'd love to try his PE out. DrEmpircism, If you're open to some sharing, I can send you a PM request if you'd like and/ or you can PM me a link. I thrive on Bootable Rescue ISOs (its why I bought the Zalman)

:) I am not sure how the forum & thread policies would come into play, but personally I'd love to try it out.

Cool little trick with Kyhi's recovery drive: take a standard Windows 10 install USB flash drive, copy the boot.wim file from \sources from Kyhi's recovery drive to the \sources on the Windows 10 install USB flash drive (overwrite the old file). Now your Windows 10 install USB flash drive will boot into Kyhi's recovery drive giving you all those utilities. If you want to install Windows 10, run setup.exe from the USB flash drive from file explorer. Bonus! Two drives in one!
I played a variation on this theme when I couldn't get Rufus to build a bootable (for my Lenovo X220 Tablet notebook). I renamed the original boot.wim to win10-orig-boot.wim and simply copied the boot.wim from Kyhi into the \sources folder. If I want to switch back to my install set-up, I'll rename boot.wim to kyhi.wim and then rename win10-orig-boot.wim to boot.wim and take off from there.
Great stuff, and a great collection of tools, Kyhi!
On another note: I've been reading over the thread 5 months after your Dad's diagnosis. I hope he's doing OK and that you are, too. My Mom managed to survive both abdominal and lung cancer in her mid-60s and made it all the way to age 90 before she passed away in 2009. My best wishes for your Dad, you, and your family in handling this crisis.
    --Ed--

PS: have read far enough along now to learn about your Dad's passing. FWIW, I think you made a brave -- and correct -decision to let him sleep his way out of this world into the next. There comes a point when pain and suffering can no longer be endured and must be bypassed by whatever means are available. My condolences to you and your family. Treasure your good memories: they are the most important things any of us can leave behind.
