Start8 on Windows Tech Preview

If anyone is interested:
Stardock has released Version 1.50 of the Start8 Start Menu replacement utility for Windows 8. This version adds support for the sleep function on Surface 3 and similar devices, and adds an option to show a list of Metro apps on the Start Menu.

That's exactly what Microsoft should do is give people a choice text or icons doesn't sound like a big deal not sure why Microsoft thinks it is :/
But yes ultimately start8 will most likely be re-activated by me

Personally, I fail to see what the big deal is here, everyone has had the option to use custom start menu's since at least XP, whether it be a free option or paid.
As far as Start8 goes, I wouldn't touch anything Stardock makes with a 10 foot stick, StartIsBack is a much better option if you are looking for something more realistic to the Windows 7 start menu. And no, I don't like the Windows 10 start menu but will deal with it, all they really did was to take the start page and condense it down to look like a start menu.
For all the 10 fanboy's, as was said above, don't knock what you have not tried, it's a matter of personal preference, and no, $5 is not going to break anyone's bank account just to try something, there are a lot of us that just can't bare the plain jane vanilla gui that the no talent gui designers at Microsoft throw at you and call it "trendy".
You can put as much lipstick on a pig as you want but in the end ..... it's still a pig.

Yea I wasn't joyed to use start8 but it was a hell of allot better than win-8's mess
So concessions were made to get rid of it.
Classic shell really changes too much imho but is a viable option Microsoft failed to provide users of obvious OPTIONS

I'm not knocking a thing. If you want to spend 5 bucks then go for it. I chose not to because I don't like Start8 and Classic Shell would fit my needs if I chose to go that route. And it's free.

Keep in mind that once you have a version of Classic Shell you like you don't have to update it.

Wasn't speaking of you personally, there were comments made by others earlier in the thread, that's why I used the term "Fanboy's", those that bow to pretty much anything Microsoft throws at them.
Myself personally, I customize the crap out of my Windows, I've been doing it pretty much since Windows 98, and I'll probably do so with 10 also, why? because there has not been a version of Windows yet that I personally think is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I personally think that the gui designers in Redmond could take a few lessons in design and graphics, hell some of the new icons in Windows 10 look like a 5 year old designed them.
