    I've been linking back to here on the Microsoft Community Forum. Mostly so people can figure out what version of Windows shipped on their PC, and then download and install the correct version. Those Windows 8 COA stickers are useless.
    Thanx buddy.
    Agreed those stickers are too tech and of no real use ( meaning the hologramatic effect to check authenticity)

    I don't think the one on my laptop is even holographic? All it says is Windows 8? Doesn't really tell you much? Is it Core, Core SL? That's why I link here so they can figure out what to install and save the "why won't it activate" or "why is my key no good" situations. And having to start all over again with the correct install media. If they sign up here, even better. The Microsoft Community Forum is boring compared to here. Going there may help me renew my MVP so I do it.

    Check if you turn it in the light if the holo changes colour... kinda meaningless in the real world, TBH.

    All that's on mine is an ASUS sticker on the bottom with the serial number, part number and Windows 8 on it. Or I peeled it off. I peeled all the stickers that were on top beside the touchpad off. I like it nice a clean. It's running Windows 10 Pro now anyway. With the embedded key, who needs that useless sticker anyway. I'll never resell this laptop anyway.

    This is an update release to Version 1.0.5815.
    New in this release:
    Bug fix: In WinPESE , automated discovery would crash if no existing Windows installations (from Windows and Windows.old folders) found. Option included to re-direct to "Retrieve key from backup" instead for a user initiated search.
    OEM description was not displaying for the associated key.
    @Kyhi, @topgundcp - can you please test.

    Bug fix: Some motherboards (eg. Gigabyte) have a pre-installed MSDM table in the firmware without an OEM key embedded. Exception caught if key not present.

    Based on error reported here: Showkey - Page 19 - Windows 10 Forums
    and here: Please Read: Activation troubleshooting - Page 7

    Pre-release: Download.

    1. Click Yes then Cancel: displays blank screen with Save button Disabled
    2. Click No: displays blank screen with Save button Enabled
    3. Click Cancel: Exit the program

    I think this is a little bit confusing that you have 3 buttons: Yes, No, Cancel. IMO, should only have Yes and No. If click No or Yes ->Cancel then Exit. If click Yes then search for SOFTWARE.

    1st screen:
    ShowKeyPlus-skerror.png

    Click No
    ShowKeyPlus-skclickno.png

    Click Yes->Cancel

    In WinPESE , automated discovery would crash if no existing Windows installations (from Windows and Windows.old folders) found.
    But it was also looking for Bios Embedded key or oem marker...

    So what they are reporting (really) is there is No Embedded Key or OEM marker, No Windows.old folders or windows OS partitions..

    So to me just a message is fine... Yes No Cancel EXIT
    As the retrieve key from backup Option still there..
    But unless they mount a windows image - there is no key to be found anyway..

    if No Key then Message and Exit - IMO all that is needed..

    If must have question in message then YES = Popup Retrieve Key (search) Screen > NO=Exit

    I downloaded the new version - @topgundcp will need to test the error messages..
    As all my PC's have an oem marker...

    5812 Included a version check to alert of new releases
    5815 did not popup a new 5829 version available

    Nevermind, figured out why...
