    I have a Lenovo G505 with an unactivated Windows 7 Ultimate installed. I need to install the correct version of Windows 10.
    ShowKey Plus shows the OEM key as invalid. Why is that I wonder?

    Shall I take a chance and install Windows 10 and it see if it activates.
    I assume it will be Windows 8.1 SL as it's an entry level AMD machine bought in South Africa.

    If Windows 7 isn't activated, Windows 10 won't be either. What version of Windows 10 that gets installed depends on what version of Windows your upgrading from. 7 Ultimate will get you 10 Pro. But like I said, it won't be an activated version of Windows 10 Pro. Is there a COA sticker on the PC with a version listed and a product key to go with it. 7 Ultimate not being activated indicates its not a legal install, or it was installed incorrectly.

    There is no product key. Only Windows 8 sticker at bottom of laptop.

    That will only work if that PC came with a Windows 8/8.1 factory OEM install. Windows 7 OEM-SLP installs do not store a product code in the BIOS.

    You may also have to wipe the drive so no previously installed OS is present. An installed OS may override retrieving the BIOS key. I haven't done enough test installs to ay one way or the other. I did a clean install on my laptop after deleting all partitions on the drive and 10 Home was installed by default with no prompt for a key or selection option for Home or Pro. It has a Windows 8.0 Core OEM embedded key. That laptop also already had a digital entitlement for 10 Pro. I had to then do a change key to get to 10 Pro.

    @Superfly,
    Hi Craig, I was just snooping around my temp files(looking at an App crash report actually) and came across something, and was curious. It was in
    C:\Users\Cliff S\AppData\Local\Temp\LicensingDiagLogs\DiagReport.xml
    Is this from your software? or Windows generated?

    Edit additional info: I didn't post the contents, because, I'm not sure if it contains, for my system, sensitive info:)
