Thanx @Kyhi - I have added it to my toolbox...

I have created this tool Releases · Superfly-Inc/Windows-ISO-Creator · GitHub
@NavyLCDR suggested a link in Showkey from the screen showing the edition to a link that will automatically download the correct version of Windows 10.
In EsdIso, selecting Win10 and sub-selecting edition will include Win 7 editions and download the correspronding Win10 edition for upgrading.

But what I'd like to know... you'll see there is a WinPE option - is it possible to create a workable (boot to Desktop) WinPE ISO from the ESD file? (i.e without ADK)

Well I downloaded your app a while ago today, and it worked just fine. Told me what the original OS was on this computer, the version, which was OEM with the oem's serial # too. Plus my current OS and its serial/key file # too. Now I was surprised that your program found the original's OS information, because.... I had completely removed everything on the hard drive, and reformatted the original partitions too. Then did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro. I don't know how your program found out about the original OS that was installed on this computer, if I deleted everything on the hard drive??? All the information your program reported was correct. How it found out about the previous OS that was installed surprises me a lot???? VERY good program you wrote thou. Mike....

Kinda what Bart's PE Builder did with previous versions...
PS: Was just a thought during conceptual design - if it's too complicated I'll just drop the idea.

If it was Windows 8.0 or 8.1, the product key is embedded in the BIOS. It's permanently stored there. If you know the product key you can figure out what version its for. Well he can, I can't its over my head. But there are Core keys and Pro keys, and if you know what your doing you can figure out which is which.

Thanks for this info :) His program is VERY impressive to say the least!!! I bought this computer used, and new some of the history on this machine, but was never told what the OEM key was. Now I know. Don't matter much now, as I upgraded this machine to Windows Pro with a clean install. The old windows was a home version.
    Thanks, Mike

If you install Windows 8.1 with the official Microsoft install media, you don't need to know what the key is. It reads it automatically during the install. I guess that's why it's not printed on the COA sticker. That's fine if you know what version to install though. If you don't it gets complicated. That's why I like recommending this tool. It takes all the guess work out of it. For Windows 8/8.1 and 10 anyway, that use embedded keys.

As alpha says ... an OEM PC gets tagged with a key in the firmware and we can then determine from that the edition it was built for based on files that Windows licencing uses.
Sorry I didn't answer your question upfront ... got side-tracked with another project.

Welcome to the Showkey family. Maybe we should plan an AGM or something...

K, found some PS scripts online... should be easy enough to convert to C#.
