My last successful activation was last month, a clean install on a 'never upgraded' machine with a W8.1 key embedded in the firmware. I've seen more recent reports of success though. Consensus opinion seems to be MS have no pressing desire to turn it off.
MS would have a problem if they did turn it off.

Under the terms of the EULA, a retail key can be used an unlimited number of times as we know.

Also the EULA clearly says upgrades inherit the characteristics of original key.

As you do not get an upgrade key from 7/8, only a generic key and digital licence, then you only have limited transferability using the activation troubleshooter.

So by turning off activation using old keys, the windows 10 upgrade would be downgraded in status in effect to oem (but with some limited retail status).

MS would not be complying with their own EULA!

However, MS could change things so only retail keys worked in the future.

I do not think MS really care that much though - they want as many people on W10 as possible.

They were prepared to give away 1billion upgrade free. By allowing upgrades to still be done unofficially, they edge towards that goal.

Got this message... not sure what it means tho'...
Universal Store App Ingestion signing disruption
We’re seeing app install failures with error code 0x800b0100 because of incorrect store signing. We have fixed the issue for new submissions and are actively working on rectifying the impacted apps.

There are still crashes coming through but no-one has posted an issue on GitHub so not sure what's causing it... I have a suspicion that Win7 key checking is the issue (as we know, it's slow at the best of times)

See how sloppy MS has become...This is not supposed to happen.

A MAK installed and upgraded... now displays the full key (it should be removed being a MAK)... and it still has >1000 activations left!

So is this because of MS tinkering with your app

    Hi C.
I went to use showkeyplus from Store, and it came up with an update message asking me if I wanted to download update.

That threw me for a second, as that message only applies if using win32.

Perhaps the message should be amended to say if using appstore version, go to Store to update?

Is the Store up to date?

M (we really are getting into James Bond now hey.. LOL),

The UWP version does not contain the "There is a newer version" code... can you replicate it and post a screenshot?

I will try and run an older image backup with viboot.

It worked - here is me loading it as uwp app.

Here it is asking me to download later version

Next is me checking Store and downloading manually for showkeyplus update (rather than waiting for it automatically which would happen sooner or later as I have updates set to auto)

    Finally updated showkeyplus

I notice the version has been substantially updated. I am guessing my version was so old that it still had check for updates bit in it?

I am not sure why it was not updated before. The MR image is 1809, and I always had auto updates on but hey where does logic ever prevail?

So why was my uwp version 1.0.6524 then?
