I did download it from Piriform. I think I am ok. I ran SFC and all seems ok. I have that system restore point to fall back on. I have disabled monitoring with Ccleaner. I prefer to see what is happening when it does, especially now.
If any one has any issues please let us know.

I have seen CCleaner not clean before, mainly Win 10. A restart will often fix the problem. A work around until a restart is convenient, right clicking the file that is stubborn and selecting clean often works, or right clicking, select view detailed results, then right click and select 'open containing folder' & delete manually.

    Ok, good to know
I always disable monitoring - I don't want or need it running in the background since I only occasionally clean up files. I wonder if that was why you saw an automatic cleanup.

The only thing I can think of to explain the size discrepancy is that something else cleaned up some files. For instance, I delete browsing history in IE when I close IE, but 1 GB down to 8 MB is quite a chunk.

mrpumpkin has seen cCleaner not clean and offered some suggestions.

If cCleaner acts up again, please post screen shots - it might be necessary to run the clean and then scan again to get the details (otherwise, you'd have to take a pre and post screen shot each time you run cCleaner to show what's going on - that's too much to ask)

Other members might have additional feedback for you.
