How to delete specific entry in windows file open popup?

    Hello everybody,
Does anyone know what does "%1" means in windows file open popup, or what program causes it? I think it's associated with picture file types (jpg, png, gif...) but I don't know how to fix it.

Is there any way to delete it or find what program causes it and fix it by re/uninstalling that particular app?

    Thanks in advance :)

Hi, often %1 is used to designate a parameter in a command line, but shouldn't appear in that dialogue. To remove it you need to edit your 'Open With' list.

In the registry there's an 'Open With' list for EACH File extension.
So definitively removing this is a bit harder, as if you delete one instance, for one file type, there could be others. So you'd have to search for them.

Basically this is a registry job.

"The “Open with” dialog box recommends programs to open a given file. The contents of the Recommended Programs list are determined in part by the registry key HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\<filetype>\OpenWithList (where filetype is the extension of the file type in question). So, for example, the …\.bmp\OpenWithList key may include several values, such as Notepad.exe. Deleting the unwanted item in the OpenWithList key will remove it from the Recommended Programs list.

Some items in the Recommended Programs and Open With lists appear as the result of values within the HCR\filetype key and its subkeys. However, accidental additions to the lists are always made in the HKCU hive."

I recommend 'Regscanner' for searching the registry, but it's up to you.

If you want to feel safer about the actual deletion, use 'Default Programs Editor' - the 'Open With' section.

    Steps (I think!):
    a. Download and install Default Programs Editor & Regscanner
    b. *** Back up the registry - or create a restore point
N.B. System restore is NOT enabled in Win 10 by default, so you must do that first.
(You can research how to do the above easily if you're not sure).
Launch Default Programs Editor & Regscanner
    c. search the registry key as above with regscanner
    d. For each instance of %1 you don't want, locate it using Default Programs Editor and delete it. (Or if you're confident, just edit the registry).

You can find the two programs easily by searching for
    "Default Programs Editor"
    (with "") and
    Regscanner

Remove Programs from the Open With Menu in Explorer
    - more for background

Thank you for explanation in wide. I fixed it. Problem was program incompatibility with win10, so win pull %1 instead of program name etc.
