    If one is looking for just a good (simple) media player then MPC get my vote. It is light weight and works as designed.

    VLC offers too many features the average person does not want or need and it is not light weight by any means.

    I second WOT's sentiments.

    However, the MPC .11 version introduced a UI glitch, and I had to revert to .10 version.

    I have found MPC-BE, the interface looks better and default settings are properly set unlike in classic, where you have to enable hardware acceleration and etc, settings people do not even know about.
